[Erotic fiction and fake mayo...]

I've been to the library many times, but I've never realised how wrong this sign looked. It says "Adult Collection". What it means is, these were fiction books meant for general population. Books for kids were somewhere else. "Adult Collection" makes it look like the erotic section or something.

And here, we have 2 packets of condiments from McDonald's. What the hell is fancy ketchup? How do you tell if your ketchup is "fancy" enough?

And watch out, always ask for real mayonnaise, lest you be fooled with the fake variety.

[Another one bites the dust...]

First, it was Jaap Stam.

Jaap Stam
Next, it was David Beckham.

David Beckham
Followed by Roy Keane.

Roy Keane
And now, Rudd Van Nistelrooy.

Van Nistelrooy
How many more great players are United going to lose, just because of Fergie's ego? When Stam, Becks and Keane left, United did not have anyone to replace them. Although Van Nistelrooy's departure probably wouldn't hurt as much, seeing how United has several established forwards in the squad.

Fire Fergie! (oh, and don't fire Eric Young)

[It's been a long time...]

Ever since I started having plants in my aquarium, I've never bothered to put aside pregnant female guppies during birth. I figured the fries would have places to hide and let nature take it's course.

I was wrong. Most of the fries were eaten. I know because I don't see a lot of fries in my tank, even with the number of female guppies I've got. I do get the occasional fry in the filter, but that's it.

Today I noticed one of the female guppies looking like it's about to give birth. I put it in the breeding tank, and sure enough, it gave birth in the afternoon.

A close-up of the fries. The black thing on the left is their Mom's shit. Sounds gross, ya? Whenever they're about to give birth, their shit is always black. Otherwise, it'd be dark red/maroon. Never thought you'd learn about the colour of guppy shit on my blog now, did you?

A picture of the guppy that gave birth. She's almost done, her belly's back to normal.

I close this entry with a quote from the Wednesday episode of David Letterman:
"There's always a chance that tiny sparks will remain;
And sparks turn into flames;
And love can burn once again."
I don't believe it. I want to, but I don't, not at this point. But it's still nice.

[Ramblings...]

I saw Pirates of the Caribbean yesterday with an old friend. Pretty good movie, and Johnny Depp was excellent as always. Note to others who's yet to see it: There's an extra scene at the end, so watch for it.

Before the movie, we were walking around and I saw this mannequin. Could they have made the nipples anymore pointier? I mean, why would anyone put nipples on a mannequin in the first place? That's just weird. Like nipples on the Batman/Robin outfits in the past.

I think the first line is cancelled out by the second and third line. Why would I want to request for a receipt then?

While waiting to see if there was a bonus scene, I leaned forward and saw the mess on the seat in front of me. It wasn't an empty seat during the movie, someone was seated there. And look at the mess he made. What's wrong with these people? How could someone sit in such a popcorn-laden seat? That's just gross.

[Russell Peters!]

He's coming to Singapore! Amid very little publicity though. I read the papers everyday and I didn't even know about it. Saw it on a friend's MSN message.

If you ask me, Russell Peters owe a lot to whoever put his 2004 Comedy Now performance online.

The tickets are a little too pricey for me though. S$100 for less than an hour's entertainment.

[59 years and counting...]

My Dad turned 59 today, and we went out for dinner at Crystal Jade's. We don't usually eat at restaurants, because my parents grew up in the era where a bowl of noodles cost 30-cents and allowance was 10-cents a day. Even food-court prices of $4 to $5 for a meal seems expensive to them.

On our way down, I spotted some CCTV cameras on the bus. Oooh....I feel so safe now. I think this is a waste of money. In the first place, who would want to bomb a bus? It makes more sense to plant them at crowded train stations. And even if some bozo did decide to blow up a bus, you think three lousy CCTV cameras are going to stop them?

After dinner at Crystal Jade's, we went to NYDC @ Wheelock for dessert. I wanted to take a picture of the lights in Wheelock, because this was the first time I was there after dark and they've turned on the lights in the glass ceiling. I was stopped by a security guard, who said we weren't supposed to take pictures inside. Well, I already did, so he can go bang his balls for all I care. Why can't we take photos inside?

A rather embarrassing incident happened at NYDC's. We ordered 2 different mud-pies (my sister was right, all the mud-pies taste the same), and it came to S$22.98. Here's the exchange between me, my sister, and the very cute waitress by the name of Carmen.
Waitress: Here's the check.
Me: (taking it, saw the amount, gave her $23) Keep the change. (I didn't want her to return with two 1-cent coins)
Waitress: (big smile) Thanks. (leaves)
Sister: (silently) What did you say?
Me: I told her to keep the change.
Sister: (rolls eyes)
Me: What? It's just 2-cents.
Sister: If it's not an even sum, (it slipped my mind that there were no 1-cent coins in circulation anymore, smallest denomination being 5-cents) they'd round it up and that's it.
So basically at this point I felt like a jackass. I shouldn't have said anything, even if we still had 1-cent coins in circulation. What the hell was I thinking? A 2-cent tip? Oh yes, I'm the big man now. Aragh....

I did feel slightly better later when I realised they weren't supposed to round up. They were only supposed to round down. This means I gave her a 5-cent tip. I told my sister, and she agreed sarcastically that yes, a 5-cent tip was so much better. Don't feel bad for Carmen or think that I'm cheap though, since there was already a 10% service charge on what we ordered.

I snapped the picture above on the bus on our way home. A mother was trying to hold up her sons' heads while the two of them were asleep (they were actually in the process of nodding off). Was that really necessary? Talk about over-pampering your kids. My sister and I had the same thought: Are they local? I mean, parents from the PRC are well known for over-pampering their kids (especially their sons), and we do have a lot of them running loose in Singapore right now (an unwelcome by-product of trying to turn Singapore into the regional education hub which the Government did not anticipate).

Eventually the boys decided to "put their heads together" and her hand was sandwiched in-between. How effective. All this time, she was leaning forward, so I'm sure her back must be uncomfortable the whole time (take it from a guy who's had back pains, that "leaning forward" position isn't a bed of roses). Pretty pointless if you ask me.

[John C. Dvorak]

I've been a subscriber of PC Magazine (Singapore version) for a long time, ever since I read the US version in the library. Over the years, I must say that the quality of the articles have declined a little. Just a little. And they changed Editors recently, without any warning (we knew it was coming the previous time).

The articles are mixed, both from local sources (when it comes to hardware/software) as well as articles from their parent version (when it comes to opinion/trends/etc).

The one column that makes the price of the magazine worthwhile, is that from John C. Dvorak. And no, that's not the guy who came up with the keyboard nobody uses.

His column in this month's local edition of PC Magazine was about open-source software. A light read, compared to some of his other columns. I especially liked one line he used, when he brought up the trend of how folks are getting what they want for free, through legal or illegal means.
"It's amusing to watch a person moralizing from a multimillion-dollar yacht about stealing intellectual property to a guy making minimum wage."
So, who's the real pirate?

[The last 15 hours...]

I had 3 places/gatherings to be at yesterday evening, and I managed to squeeze out time for 2 of them.

First up was the surprise party for Aeron at YQ's. YQ's so rich, he actually bought his own moon.

Just kidding. That's just a regular light and the night-mode feature of the camera in my mobile phone working together.

Hanging up the rubbish bags on the swing.

ZY made apple-shaped balloons.

Subby's best impression of Scary Spice.

I left the party early for another gathering with my primary school/polytechnic friends. I took the train, and I managed to get a seat before it got really packed. Standing near me was this boy and his mother. I was listening to my MP3 player, so I wasn't quite sure what was going on, but the mother started twisting the boy's ear and hitting him with her palm.

After both mother and child nearly fell down from the "spanking" session due to the train braking, a man pulled the boy away. As it turns out, that was the boy's father. He pulled his son to just in front of me, and I realised what all the fuse was about.

The boy was pulling boogers from his nose.

I was just about to take a picture of the booger he had on his fingers, when he placed it on his left arm and flicked it away using the fingers on his right hand. Yes, it was a crowded/packed train. I don't know where it landed, I was just glad it wasn't on me.

And to think I almost wanted to give up my seat for the boy. I was glad I didn't. What a brat. He wasn't repentant at all even after his mother laid the smack-down on his candy-ass.

I went to C328 with my Dad today. I found a decent-looking fish tank on Friday, so my Dad could use it for his fishes instead of using my old one (which was really small). My Dad wanted to get a set of lights and 10 cardinal tetras for his tank. I usually catch the tetras from the tanks for 80-cents each. There were no cardinals in the tanks today, so I figured I'd look around to see if they were "relocated" to some other tank. Instead, I found the cardinals in bags of 50, for $30 per bag. That's 60-cents each. So we decided there and then to get a bag instead. My Dad took 40 for his tank and I took 10 for mine. The tank above belongs to my Dad (the lights he bought were pink/purple), and the one below's mine.

I did some re-scape for my tank, especially on the right side. Whatever plant I had (no idea the name) there was growing out of control. Actually, my Dad and I both have very similar plants. That's because at $1.50 per bundle, there's usually more than enough for one tank. So we share the plants too.

In the evening when my Mum came home from work, she brought up the mail and the shirts I ordered with Subby finally arrived.

I ordered a Samoa Joe and an AJ Styles shirt. Subby also ordered a Samoa Joe, and a Christopher Daniels shirt.

Back view of the shirts.

[Hard gay wrestling!]

If you have no idea who Hard Gay is, he's this insanely funny Japanese comedian who also dabbles in wrestling (under the name Razor Ramon HG). If you've never seen him in action, click here.

I was browsing on YouTube when I came across one of his wrestling matches. You'd have to watch it to get what I'm talking about later. Or you could just scan through. Watch the first few minutes though, for the entrance of Hard Gay's opponent.

In the beginning, I thought they had a similar character as that of WWE's Undertaker. The lights and smoke were kinda like what they use in the WWE for the Undertaker's entrance. It would be weird though, for an Undertaker-type character to pop out of an egg, wouldn't it?

Well, as it turns out, it's this insanely petite female wrestler, dressed like a dominatrix from Mars. Or Venus. Whatever. It's the strangest match I've seen in a long time. Apart from the silliness in the ring between Hard Gay and the alien dominatrix, we're treated to the sight of a masked referee. I've seen masked wrestlers before, but this is the first time I've ever seen a masked referee.

For those who're observant, you'd have noticed Tajiri helping out Hard Gay. The two of them seem to be allies, judging by this other clip on YouTube.

I did a little more looking around on YouTube (it's almost 2am, I'm tired...), and I think I've figured out that dominatrix's name. She's called "Yingling The Erotic Terrorist". She looks more like a porn star than a terrorist. Bombs used by terrorists probably weigh more than her.

This video above is the "press conference" for what I believe is their match above.

[Full circle...]

I talked about my grandma in a recent post (2nd half of that post). She's been admitted to the hospital, and we visited her today.

Apparently it wasn't as bad as we first thought. Due to some mis-communication, we were lead to believe that she broke her hip in two places and one of them "slipped". As it turns out, all she had were fractures (and nothing slipped). In a normal person, they should heal by themselves, no problem. But in a 92-year old, it takes longer.

My grandma has a peculiar habit. She won't sleep on her back, only on her sides. She fractured both sides of her hip when she fell down last month, the left side being more serious. So she couldn't sleep on her left side, only on her right. She's bedridden until the bones heal (which would take exceptionally long due to her age), and sleeps almost 20 hours a day. As time went by, the right side of her leg started to swell, and she had to be admitted for the doctors to insert something into her leg to ease the blood-flow.

There were two things that happened in this whole episode. I shall talk about the funny one first. The second one....Not so funny.

Since she was bedridden, my aunt called for the nearby GP for a house call. I wasn't there, by I was told that after some initial apprehension (he wanted them to check with the doctor she saw when she was first admitted to the hospital to see if it was okay for a GP to examine her), he gave her a very thorough examination, and charged a very fair price.

The doctor told my aunt that she needs to be operated on. The blood-flow was clogged in her leg, and if left unchecked, could be fatal. This GP then recommended a friend of his in TTSH, but my grandma could not be admitted because the wards were full and the only available beds were in Class A (the most expensive ward). They waited a day for a ward in B1 to become available (and they got it only because of the GP's help/influence) before sending my grandma in.

My grandma was admitted on Thursday, and was operated on today morning in a 2-hr operation. It was regarded as a "small"/"routine" operation. On Friday, she received a fruit basket.

Here's the funny part. The one and only funny part about the whole episode.

Of course, they were shocked to see a fruit basket. I mean, who would be sending my 92-year old grandma a fruit basket? They checked, and it wasn't a mistake, it was addressed to my grandma. Attached was a letter which explained everything.

Apparently the GP expressed his unhappiness that my grandma could not be admitted ASAP, and had to wait for a free bed to open up. I'm not sure if he wrote in or called in, but he made his feelings known. The fruit basket was from the hospital staff, their way of saying "sorry" for making my grandma wait a day. I'm probably not telling it right, but it was pretty funny, and we had a laugh about it because it seems my grandma is sort of a VIP now. The thing is, we were not mad that my grandma couldn't get a bed, because TTSH is a very popular/busy hospital. They had to temporarily close their A&E department recently because they couldn't cope with the influx of patients.

Here's the less-than-funny part.

One of my uncles was there keeping watch on my grandma when we visited today. In our conversation, he actually brought up something along the lines of my grandma was already 92, it was time to go, and it might be better if she just went.

What the fuck?

I can't believe he said that. It's not like he doesn't have money for her medical bills. He owns two private, landed properties and recently spent S$400,000 renovating one of them. He'd be renovating the other one next year, knocking down the current single-story house and replacing it with a 3-story building.

What goes around, comes around.

[Times have changed...]

I was from a neighbourhood secondary school. During my time, I've seen fights, smoking, "decorating" of the boys toilet with toilet paper and "feminine" products (don't ask). I was told that a student was passed out on a table once, after taking a pill he really shouldn't have access to.

Recently there's been an influx of cellphone videos taken by students of fights in their schools. I've never actually seen any of them. Until now.

I came across the following videos on a local forum.

[OMG!]

I'll say this about Ric Flair...I've never really been a fan of his. All his matches flow more or less the same way, and the only reason he doesn't get booed out of the building with what he does in the ring is the fact that he is, Ric Flair.

I will, however, give credit when credit is due.

This week on ECW, Flair had a match against The Big Show. Extreme rules. It was an insane match, by Flair's standards. Not to mention that he's 57.

I don't understand, why check for "weapons" in an extreme match?

I'd never have believed it if you told me that Flair would use a barb-wired baseball bat in the ring.

Thumb-tacks!!

The Big Show, on a bed of tacks.

The tacks in Flair's back...

...and one in his head.

[Something lame...]

I did something lame today. *looks ashamed*

Those of you using MSN Messenger would know about the "what am I listening to" feature. It's supposed to work with WMP 9 and above (I think). Basically, when you listen to music on your WMP, the whole world can see what you're listening to.

I thought that was a pretty cool feature, but I couldn't enable it because:
  1. I'm using Winamp for my audio needs.
  2. I hate WMP.
  3. I'm still using WMP 6.4 for my video needs.
  4. I hate all newer versions of WMP.
  5. I didn't download any newer versions of WMP, save for the one that WinXP came with.
  6. Did I mention I hate WMP?
But it occurred to me today that there's probably a plug-in for Winamp that would enable the feature. So I did a search, found an excellent plug-in. No fuss, no config, no nothing.

There's just one problem.

Before you can enable the feature inside MSN, it'd check to see if you have version 9 (I think, couldn't remember) of WMP. If not, you're not allowed to enable the feature. Since I've never downloaded a newer version of WMP, that puts me out of the game.

I downloaded WMP 10, installed it (with no intention of using it) and enabled the feature in MSN. Fired up my Winamp, and it works.

That was the easy part.

Now I have to clean up the mess installing WMP 10 left behind. I had to re-assign my file type associations so that the multimedia files I want to be played in WMP 6.4 would be played in WMP 6.4. I spent a lot of time there, because I forgot about a quicker way. After that, I had to permanently disable a service used by WMP 10.

All that, just so I can display on MSN what I'm listening to.

This is beyond lame.

[Know your role and shut your mouth...]

Last night's World Cup finals was officially the second complete match I caught, of the entire tournament. The other one being the England - Portugal match. My Dad actually caught more World Cup matches than I did (gasps!)...And he's not even a real fan. He doesn't follow the EPL much (like most folks here), and he doesn't know most of the players. But he had the discipline to get up at 3am in the morning.

It's a shame regarding Zidane. Everyone would have known by now what happened. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Actually the TV didn't show what happened, just the aftermath. It was only later that they show Zidane handing out a head-butt. What a silly thing to do.

Next part of this post, I'm going to rip into someone. [Regular readers from school: No, it's not you. Really. Scouts' honour. I was never a scout, but what the hell...]

Okay, not really someone. More like a group of people. Before, during and after the freshmen orientation camp, I've heard (more than once) "seniors" (using the term very loosely here) offering advice about modules (without being asked), about how "if you want to know more about modules in the *whatever* stream, you can ask me".

I rolled my eyes every time I heard that. Why? Because they're not seniors. They're sophomores. They haven't really taken a lot of the modules in their streams, and they were really in no position to offer advice. Personally, I felt that you'd have to have at least completed your 2nd year in order to give advice that freshmen could actually use.

Just my 2-cents worth.

Haven't pissed on someone in a while. This feels good. Yeah, it feels good.

["Ki tang"]

Last night, I received the most alarming SMS from my sister ever.
"someone's getting possessed underneath the block!"
She was on her way home from a friend's gathering, and alarmed, I called her immediately to find out what was wrong. As it turns out, it wasn't directly under our block, but a few blocks away, on her way from the bus-stop back to our block. What she witnessed was what we call "ki tang". In short, they "invite" the spirit of a entity-god to "possess" them and they would ask questions (a lot of times, for lottery numbers). It was weird, as such events are usually not held in such a public place.

This reminded me of 2 incidents which happened to me when I was younger. Till this day, I can't explain what happened. The first tale goes like this...

When we were young, we were told not to point at the moon, or risk getting our ears "cut". I never knew the old wives' tale behind this caution. I did, however, point at the moon.

And as it would turn out, my ears did get "cut". A small cut appeared above one of my ears. The right one, if I remember correctly. It was a small cut, at the point where your glasses would sit on your ears. Back then, I was liable to believe anything, and it scared the shit out of me. Needless to say, I never pointed at the moon again. And my ear recovered. Slowly. Recently, on one of the local forums, I found out that my experience was not unique. Many others have encountered the same thing during their childhood.

The next one was a tad more chilling. It also happened when I was younger...I think I was probably 8 to 10-years old at the time. I was down with a fever which simply won't go away. My parents brought me to several doctors, but I never got better.

Eventually, my grandmother thought that maybe I've "offended" something. So my Dad brought me to this...I don't know what you call it. This person, just like the ki tang I mentioned above, would allow an entity-god to possess her and she'd play doctor to those whose illness can't be treated by normal means.

As it turns out, according to her, I offended some spirits by stepping on their offerings when I was out playing with my cousins. She gave me some paper charms to burn, put the ashes in water, and drink. It sounds insane, but I did get better after that.

My memories of the whole incident is hazy, but that's about what I can remember. I remember going to see the "witch-doctor" twice, but I can't remember exactly why.

[Creepy or cute?]

Woke up this morning with a sore/stiff knee. My right knee has never been the same since I fell down while training in Thailand way back in 2003. My knee was already giving me trouble last night during the movie. Sitting in the not-so-comfortable seat for 2+ hours didn't do my knee any favours.

My sister showed me the video below this morning.

[Locksley Returns]

I caught Superman Returns today. Actually yesterday evening, to be precise. Anyway, the film was a letdown. I expected more from Bryan Singer.

Before we caught the show, I met Subby and Aeron for dinner. We had dinner at Pepper Lunch (isn't that ironic?). Their dishes were basically beef with rice...With a gimmick. The rice is cooked, but the beef is raw. We get to cook it ourselves on the very hot plate they provided. Subby said the plate uses infra-red waves to help cook the beef. I don't know if it's true or if he's just bullshitting me.

Anyway, to side-track a bit, office ladies in Singapore like to "reserve" tables during lunch hours (while they go buy their food) by putting their tissues on them. I've always thought that that was pretty funny/silly. I mean, how do they tell all those tissue packets apart?

So Subby thought it'd be funny to use his tissue to reserve our table. It was funny because there were a ton of empty tables about.

And to make his point, he also left behind a used tissue.

On our way home from the movie, we saw another person dressed in a similar fashion as our friend. That's my friend on the right, and some stranger on the left. I don't know what made me take the picture. I guess it was funny at the time. The operative words here are "at the time", cause I have no idea whatsoever how to make a joke out of the picture now. Actually, after the movie I met a polytechnic classmate of mine whom I haven't seen for 4-years. I left him my MSN address, hope he remembers to add me.

These are the ticket stubs. Subby was the only one who asked for his. I wished I had kept stubs from every movie I've been to. Too late to start now.

Ok...Now what does this remind you of?

[My rig is dying...]

The computer I'm currently using is slightly more than 4-years old. I don't know about you, but I think that's a pretty long time to use the same computer. I put it together myself during my first book-out during my BMT. I still remember how tired I was, and how I cursed my old system for dying on me at the worst possible time.

The new system (4 years ago) served me well. I've put in some new stuff along the way...Like a new display card that allows me to watch movies on my TV, a DVD writer, and new hard disks. But the rest of the system remains unchanged.

A while back, I had a problem whereby my system would reboot itself without warning. It usually occurred in the first 15 minutes after it first booted up. That is to say, in theory, it could keep on rebooting with no end.

The problem went away, and I never thought more of it. Until now. It's back with a vengeance.

This morning, I spent 45 minutes watching my system reboot itself. I'm not kidding. It would reboot just as it's booting into Windows, usually just before the welcome screen. At one stage, it showed me the option to boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc etc. It didn't matter which option I picked, the system would reboot. After that, it told me my NTFS.sys was corrupted and it must be repaired using the installation CD.

I was pretty pissed.

I didn't really have any intentions of upgrading/changing my system, since it's really still serving me well. Another reason would be the lack of liquid assets right now. Not to mention the trouble I'd have to go through to set up the new system.

Luckily for me, it managed to finally boot into Windows proper. If it didn't reboot itself after...about 15 minutes, it'd be good to go. The chances of the problem re-occurring would be very slim. So I guess after I boot up my system every morning, I'm not going to reboot it at all throughout the day, lest the whole rebooting episode replays itself.

I'm not sure what's causing the problem, but I think it's one of the hardware components. At least that's what Microsoft seems to think, since that's the "solution" they tell me if I send them an error report.

[Ramblings...]

Played pool with Subby and LY yesterday evening. It was fun, I haven't played pool in a while. I wasn't half as good as Subby or LY, but it was fun nevertheless. A ton of cute girls came just as we were leaving. I think there's a good chance that they were from the same polytechnic as I was. Damn...Why didn't I have that many cute female friends when I was going there?

Saw the England versus Portugal match last night at Subby's place. Personally, I thought it was a match England did not deserve to lose. They created more and better chances, but lost on penalties. Talked a bit with LY about his current "situation". Actually Subby did most of the talking. Haha! Anyway, I think you should just do whatever makes you happy. After all, you only live once.

Got an email from Google AdSense today. It seems that they don't approve of me using BlogExplosion/BlogClicker to generate "false page impressions". I've been using both of them for ages...And I guess it took a while before I was registered on their radar. Honestly, I never knew that it was against their program policies, and I should be glad that they've chose to send me a warning email instead of pulling the plug immediately. Although it's not as if I'm making a fortune with AdSense. Usually I make just about enough for a copy of newspaper a month. A lot of people on BlogExplosion/BlogClicker have AdSense on their blogs as well, I wonder if they all got the email too. I think I'll continue with AdSense for now, and stop the BE/BC activity for a while and see what kind of results I get with AdSense before I decide which plug to pull, permanently.

Bought a CO2 ceramic diffuser today for my aquarium. Broke it within 5 minutes after I reached home. I used too much force to push the tubing onto the diffuser. I was pretty pissed about the whole thing. I think I'd probably go down to C328 tomorrow to get a new one. At the same time, I can check how much the Eheim 2232 costs. I'm thinking of getting that to replace my current internal filter.

[Apprehension...]

I'm not sure if this is normal, but I tend to be a bit of a worry-wart sometimes. I like some structure in my life. I don't like being caught off-guard. And I don't always like surprises.

A little while back, my friends were bidding for their honours year projects (HYP). HYPs are projects to be done in your final year in university, and from what I've been told, you usually do it alone. Being in the E-Commerce stream, I'm not as technically-inclined as I was when I was in polytechnic (relatively speaking...it's not as if I was on track to be an insane programmer/developer or anything), so I anticipated that there could be a bit of a problem when HYP comes around for me.

While my friends were bidding for their projects, I took a peek at the projects on offer. I wouldn't have any idea how to get started on most of them, especially the technical projects (no surprise there, since it really isn't my field...and this would severely limit my choices). There were projects on how to improve Bit-torrent, how to create more realistic MIDI files from similar WAV files, and the like. Even the non-technical, research-based projects looked difficult. Of the long list of projects on offer in the previous semester, I dare say I'm comfortable with just 3-4 of them.

I'll be bidding for my project this coming semester, unlike the majority who did it in the previous semester. This is due to me not matriculating with the main batch of students. The projects on offer at this time for the "irregular" folks are usually way lesser than normal, which further limit my choices.

Worrying about it not probably won't help at all. But I still can't help it. Will I crash and burn? HYP is an important module, with a weight of 12 credits (normal modules carry 4 credits). I can't afford to screw it up...I don't think my CAP could absorb the "impact" should I do badly. I'd probably need a lot of guidance in this area, and I must really hope and pray for a good supervisor. I'd probably also try to get my hands on my friends' past projects, to see what is expected of me.

Although to be fair, when I first entered polytechnic way back in 1999, I was also worried about my final year project. In the end, not only did I coast through it, I managed to get a very good grade for it. But I doubt history would repeat itself, seeing as the standards in university are very much higher than those in a polytechnic.

This is therapeutic. I feel a bit better after my ranting.
