[Can't decide...]

I can't decide to get a new rig or not. I did my sums, getting a new rig now would cost me about $2,800. Mainly due to the high cost of Intel's Core i7 chips at the moment.

My current rig is not perfect, but it's still going. It's like a COE car. Not new, not the fastest, but it still takes me from point-A to point-B. Also, not looking forward to having to format and reinstall every single shit thing all over again.

I'm changing my mind about this every two hours. I'm going crazy.

[Rest day...]

I took leave today. I needed a break, and there really isn't much going on at the office this week. Mainly due to several important meetings being canceled or postponed. I've wanted to get some things done, but have yet to start on any of them. I need to get off my ass and just do it.

My parents listen to Capital 95.8FM. It's the official "uncle and auntie" radio station. Personally, I can't stand the DJs on this station, can't stand the topics they talk about, and I can't stand the songs they play.

The people who call in are mostly...Stupid. Take this morning, for example. Someone called in to take part in a radio quiz show. The question, in Mandarin, was, "Which country is the Queen of England from?"

The caller had no idea. How can you not know? The answer is in the question, for goodness sake! It took the moron about 5 seconds before she realised and she answered the question. How retarded can one get?

Then there's this other segment on Sundays. No prize whatsoever for calling in and giving the right answers. But people do it anyway. Some call in and attempt to change the question. I'm not kidding. What's wrong with these people? Do they want to hear themselves on radio so bad?

[Random shorts...]

I've seen many people getting pissed when the Express bus doesn't stop at their stops. But this woman on the bus this morning takes the cake. She kept pressing the bell non-stop, shouted at the driver, and continued doing so after the driver turned around to tell her that the bus doesn't stop along this stretch.

This woman then went to the front to plead with the driver to allow her to alight. The bus was stopped at the time, in the middle lane, waiting to turn right. You know what this means, don't you? If she alighted, there's a pretty good chance that an oncoming car would knock her all the way into the next century since no car driver is going to expect an alighting passenger in this situation.

Said woman kept shouting/asking when is the next stop. The driver told her twice, and then decided to ignore her. When the bus finally stopped and opened the doors, she alighted through the front door - right smack into the horde of people trying to get on.

This woman is living, breathing proof that the gene pool needs a little chlorine.

I think one of my closer friends when I was in Poly....Is gay.

Nothing against gay people. I'm just...Surprised. I guess it sort of makes sense...But he wasn't one of those loud, look-at-me-I'm-so-gay type of person.

Saw a car today. Full of Hello Kitty decals. Filled with Hello Kitty soft toys. And a life-size Hello Kitty in the passenger seat, with the seat-belt fastened.

Creepy.

Saw this guy with Maggi Mee hair, combing his hair furiously today when I got off work. The thing is, with hair texture like that, your hair is "frozen" in one style. That's it. The Maggi Mee style.

Comb all you want, the hair on your head is still going to look like pubic hair.

The last row of seats on the bus is supposed to be for five people. But let's be honest, it can only realistically sit four. Unless you have four petite ladies and one small-sized man. So why do people force their way in? A moron did that today. I didn't make space for him. The guy on his other side did not make space for him. He ended up looking like a squashed sponge, with both his arms sort-of in front of him. He deserved it. I have to put up with thigh-to-thigh contact, he can look like a squashed sponge for all I care.

Public transport is so uncivilised.

[Please sign here...]

I was at the bank earlier. I needed to get something sorted out. After filling in and signing the form, I was told that the signature did not look like what they had on record and I needed to sign again. The best part was, the lady told me which part of the signature did not look right and advised me to leave out a certain portion.

I find it ironic. All I wanted was to transfer money within my own accounts. I was there, in person, with my IC and they want to be anal about my signature?

The cheques I send every month for my credit card bills...They are for transferring money out of my accounts and they get cleared every month.

I wonder why.

[So tired...]

It's been stressful at work recently. I haven't had a break since I started (as compared to the long holidays I enjoyed when I was still in Uni), and since my colleague's being transferred, I'm getting exposed to more areas at work. It's nothing I can't handle and he will be a phone call away, but it's still stressful. The girl who's coming to replace him...I don't know how that would work out. Hopefully for the best.

Then there's also the question of when would my boss be transferred. I'm actually somewhat looking forward to that. He's absolutely brilliant, but can be impossible to work with at times. My colleague has a bit of a bad reputation...And it's all because of our boss. Well, I certainly won't let that happen to me.

Of course, there's also the question about where would I be when everything's said and done. I could stay, seek new opportunities within my department, outside my department, or outside the organisation even.

Little bits of uncertainty cause little bits of stress. But when they all add up...It'll probably give me a brain tumour.

I was so burnt out and tired at work today, I almost submitted a leave application to take the afternoon off. I didn't in the end, and managed to finish everything on my to-do list. In a tired, burnt out state. I deserve a medal for that. I spent the last hour surfing the Internet and playing the Star Wars game in OpenOffice. It's really quite fun when you have no other alternatives. I went all the way to level-14 I think. Haa!

[Hoot!]

The following picture was taken...Somewhere in Singapore.

What the hell is "consex"? Does this place sell items you can use to con someone into having sex with you? Does the authorities know about this?

The poster of PCK is obviously not having the desired effect. This woman is standing right in front of where the train door would open. I think the campaign is stupid, but how can you not laugh when you see PCK in that pose?

I've been thinking about getting a PSP. But after some consideration, I decided against it for now. What I'm really looking for is a Personal Media Player and the features I want can currently be met by my Creative Zen X-Fi.

So while I saved about $350 by not getting a PSP, I blew almost $500 today (or rather, yesterday) by getting the items below.

A new 32GB thumbdrive. I bought a 8GB one recently, the same time I bought my new monitor. I wanted the 16GB one, but they were out of stock. Now my sister needs a bigger one for her HYP, so I sold her the 8GB one and bought the new 32GB one for myself. I don't have much uses for a thumbdrive these days. It's mostly used when I want to transfer something to my sister (or vice versa) and one of our computers is not powered up. If both our systems are on, we would just do it over the network.

I already have the white version of the Seagate FreeAgentGO. Was thinking about getting another one. I believe in mirroring all my data and currently the data in my white FreeAgentGO is not mirrored anywhere else. Decided to get another one after seeing it on offer at $159. I bought the while one when it first came out (I remember hunting it down because most places don't carry it yet) at $289. Ouch.

And finally, DVD+R DL discs. Nothing exciting about that.

I've also been meaning to get a new bag for work. I'm currently still using my Crumpler...Which is fine except that it makes me look like a student on internship. Wanted to get something in leather, but most of the ones I've come across are either not suitable or too expensive.

Finally found one that I thought looks sophisticated enough, well-made (it's a Samsonite) and the price was reasonable. Managed to get 10% off the price using my credit card.

Thank goodness for my bonus this month. Else I would be living on bread and water till my next paycheck.

[How can it be...]

...that in this day and age, that people still fall for the forward-this-email-to-X-number-of-people-and-get-X-dollars trick? I first came across this when I started getting online, which was about 13 years ago. Have people not learnt?

And why do people who can't speak a proper English sentence give themselves such a "sophisticated" English name?

Go fuck yourself. Sophisticated enough for you?

Change is coming at work. It's pretty stressful. My colleague is being transferred, and someone else is being brought in to take his place. After the dust has settled, my boss will likely be transferred.

I have plenty of options. I can either stay and work with the two new guys, or request for a transfer to some other place in the organisation. Either way, something will change. The people I work with are definitely changing. Now it's a question of whether my job scope will change.

I may consider switching to a technical job. But right now, I don't see that happening. I won't rule it out, though. I'm considering a "clean break" as well. But I don't think I will be able to get the same amount of pay in the private sector. Especially since they probably won't count what I've been doing thus far as "experience".

I think I need to stock up on my anti-histamines. I have a feeling I will need help falling asleep...

[Hives!]

I've been allergic to shellfish for as long as I can remember. It's a common allergy. For me, whenever I eat shellfish (like prawns, crabs, etc), my throat gets insanely irritated.

Recently, I realised that I no longer seem to be allergic. Which was weird. According to something I read, if you don't outgrow an allergy by the time you're 5-years old, you're probably going to have that allergy for life. Anyway, I started eating prawns again with little or no effect. The worst "allergic reaction" I've got in recent times is just a slightly irritated throat. Absolutely nothing compared to the discomfort I've felt in the past.

But the allergic reaction may have changed the way it manifests.

I had a packet of fried noodles earlier. There were two prawns inside. I had the prawns, and now I have hives very close to my...happy place. According to my sister (the Life Science major), hives often manifest themselves near the parts of the body where the skin "folds" because there are more immuno cells there.

Hives are gross. They look like some type of STD. I hope they go away soon.

[SPH needs fact-checkers...]

Guess what I saw in today's Life! section?

The infamous laundry ball. If the people at ST had done their homework, they would have known that these things don't really have any real scientific backing. If you ask me, these things belong in the same category as those things you can plug into your wall socket and your total electricity consumption will supposedly be reduced.

If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

[Tweet tweet!]

I've been thinking about joining Twitter for a while and then adding a RSS feed of Tweets to my blog. I thought it would be something fun to do, so I could micro-blog from my phone when I'm outside.

Problem was, Twitter did not have a local Singapore number for me to SMS to. I know someone set up a local gateway somewhere, but it didn't seem to work as advertised based on the comments left on the website.

Anyway, my sister brought up something about Twitter earlier and I decided to get off my ass and I've gotten everything set up. You can see my last ten tweets on the right. The weather thingy is gone. Who cares, right?

[Back...]

Back from reservist.

I don't know why people say, "So song ah..." when I tell them I need to attend reservist for one week. One of my female colleagues said that when I told her I won't be around this week. Another female friend told me the same thing on MSN.

I want to meet the people who say reservist is slack and they enjoy going back. It's insanely siong for me. Granted, we did the same things we did when we were NSFs, but that was more than five years ago and when I was ten kilos lighter.

Another soldier died today. I think that makes seven in as many months.

What's going on?
