[The battle within...]

Maybe it's the stress affecting my immune system, I don't know, but I've been falling ill a lot lately. Came down with flu again today. Although it's not as bad as the last time I had flu.

Having to attend classes with the flu virus really takes it out of you. I was throwing away an empty coffee can this morning and I tossed away my highlighter as well because I wasn't all there. Oh well...At least it was an old highlighter. Not much ink left.

My head's exploding....

[You will be...]

Saw Unforgiven yesterday. Decent performance by everyone on the whole. Chris Masters might look good, but he sure as hell sucked in the ring. Matt Hardy took an unreal bump by delivering a legdrop from the top of the cage. Ric Flair should really hang up his boots. The Coach should be removed from his colour commentary position...He can't think on his feet and ended up not making any sense at all.

Below are screen captures of Hardy's insane leap off the top of the cage. Kids, don't try this at home.

[When life gives you lemons...]

...make lemonade.

When the going gets tough, the tough drinks lemonade.

This week's the semester break. Well, not really a break when you consider all the outstanding projects we're all working on as well as the amount of school work to catch up on. It's the halfway point of the semester, and I guess it's time to take stock of how it's been.

So far, it's going more or less okay for me in school. It's a struggle to keep on top of things though...Many a times I just feel like forgetting about school and piss my time away.

Things on another front aren't going as well as I've hope though. Oh well....Radio silence for a while now. Reminds me of the Space Mountain ride in Disneyland...You're in an enclosed space and doesn't know which way the roller-coaster's going to go. Yeah, that's how I feel now. Just at a slower speed.

Welcome to my life.

[Changes...]

I've changed the layout of my blog a bit. Now it looks good only on 1024 * 768. If you're on 800 * 600, you'd have to scroll. Don't blame me, blame my new monitor. I've finally changed to 1024 * 768 now that my screen is bigger. I must be one of last people to be still using 800 * 600.

[Another new toy...]

My 3 and a half year old Samsung CRT crapped out on me last night. So I went and bought a new Viewsonic LCD monitor today. I went to Funan instead of SLS, because Fuwell now has a branch there as well.

After I picked the model I wanted, they brought it out and tested it for me. It was fine at the shop, but when I returned home, I realised that there was a huge clump of dead pixels on the left side of the screen. I honestly don't understand how that happened...It was fine at the shop when I tested it. My only explanation was perhaps the screen got damaged somehow on my way home, as I placed the monitor on the floor of the bus.

I went back to change for another one, since it was 7 days 1-to1 exchange if there were any dead pixels. They were surprised to see me back so soon, and asked me if I lived across the street from Funan or something....Haha...But they were very nice about the whole thing and changed a new one for me. This time round, I did not let go of it at all. I stood on the bus all the way home and held onto the monitor. It was tiring, but at least there would be less impact since my holding it absorbed most of the jerks and bumps.

So far, I'm satisfied with my purchase, except for the fact that whenever a white background is shown, it's "burning" white. Too bright for my eyes. Played with the controls all day trying to get a balance between the brightness and contrast. Hopefully it'd get better after it "burns in".

[Today is...]

...the toughest day for me ever since I entered NUS.

I woke up with a sore throat and running nose this morning. By the time I got to school, my running nose got worse and I started having a mild fever. I was feeling very sleepy/tired throughout the day due to my running nose and fever.

Even so, I had to go to FASS after my lecture to hand up my GEM essay, then went to participate as a research subject for MKT1003. There was this idiot in the group who took forever to complete his surveys. Everyone was staring at him and waiting for him to make up his mind.

Then I went back to SOC to get ready for my dreaded quiz. As it turns out, the quiz was actually pretty easy. But I knew I won't have time to finish all my calculations, so I skipped all of them to complete all the "concept" questions first. I didn't have time to complete all the questions, so I just made a guess for some of them. If I had more time (and wasn't ill), I could have probably got most of the answers right. I hope I don't score too badly for this quiz.

After the quiz, had a project meeting all the way till 8pm. Finally reached home at 9pm. Doesn't sound like much, but if you have to go through it while down with flu, it feels like climbing Mount Everest. I was panting like an old man after climbing 2 flights of stairs....

Not looking forward to another day like this. Ever.

[Unprepared...]

I have quiz tomorrow, worth 8% of my final grade for my Computer Security module. It's my major requirement, so I have to take it eventually. I would never have taken this module otherwise. While I understand the concepts, I'm totally lost in the maths. How ironic, that the lecturer's advice to us was, "Don't get lost in the maths!"

Too late.

I've never felt this unprepared for a test/exam in a very long time. It feels like I'm back to my secondary school days, about to take a maths examination.

Into the hands of fate....

[Too much time...]

I was waiting for my friends today while they were buying lunch so I tried balancing some coins on the table. I balanced the 50-cent coin in no time at all, and after a few tries, managed to balance the 10-cent coin as well. I tried balancing a 5-cent coin...But couldn't.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, 65 cents gets you a packet of Peel Fresh fruit juice in the Science Canteen.

[Slow And Fucked-up...]

When I secured my modules about 7 weeks ago, I realised I have an exam during my ops manning week at the end of the year. I immediately called to figure out how to be excused from it.

The first time I called, this 2LT answered the phone and asked me to send my request in writing to the brigade S3. I thought that was pretty weird...Since when did the S3 take care of such trivial matters?

I didn't hear about it for one month after mailing it. I called. This time, a corporal from S1 branch picked up the phone. It seems that I should have mailed him instead of the S3. He wasn't forwarded my inital letter, so I sent down another copy to him at the end of last month.

It's been 7 weeks since this whole debacle began, and I'm still waiting for an answer. I called the unit again just now, asking for that corporal from S1 branch whom I know by name. He's taking an off day today. He's *always* on off day it seems. The first time I called and the 2LT answered instead because this little corporal was on an off day.

[Adventures on public transport...]

The picture above was taken today at the bus-stop under Clementi MRT station. Notice the 2 men in dark clothing standing near the dustbin, and how no one's standing near them? The 2 of them were puffing away like crazy. And the smoke, instead of rising up into the sky like the smoke caused by forest fires in Indonesia, decided to disperse like a silent fart instead. Everyone was irritated by the smoke, and had to move away from them. I read somewhere that each cigarette takes away 90 seconds of your life. Well done, between the 2 of them, they've shorten their lifespans by 3 minutes.

I got on the bus, and a rather good-looking girl sat next to me. She was fast asleep before we reached Sunset Way. She was swaying like a coconut tree, and at one point actually threatened to fall off her seat.

As a result of her swaying about, the right side of her blouse actually slipped down. It was at this time that I contemplated asking her if she wanted to switch seats. I mean, I'm wide awake and she's swaying like a road sign in Hurricane Katrina. Plus, she was seriously in danger of being *really* exposed. But she woke with a start shortly after Ngee Ann Poly, and managed to stay awake since.

And yeah, I know the pictures are like crap....It's not easy taking a picture of the person next to you and to be stealthy about it.

[Get your tickets early!]

This is what the LT looked like today 20 mins before my Film & History module started. That's a *lot* of people, considering the lecture won't commence for another third of an hour.

And this is what the LT looked like 10 minutes before the lecture started. Everyone comes earlier for this module, because there are slightly more students than there are seats, and if you don't get a good seat, you end up sitting on the stairs when they play the movie.

We saw Memento today....I saw it a while back, but it's quite different watching for enjoyment and watching because you need to write an essay about it. Speaking of which...I did only average for my first essay. Looks like I'm going to have to throw 1 SU away on this module. :"(

[I'm looking around, taking names, and I'm coming back to kick some ass...]

[This is a very angry post.]

I've never liked doing group projects, most of the time. It's always slow going, and decisions take forever to be made.

So this semester, one of my modules in Biz Sch involves doing 2 projects. The first one is 10%, and the second one is 15%. I ended up in a tutorial class all by myself, as I couldn't get the one with people I know from my own faculty. The more time we spent on the project, the more pissed I got.

First of all, to me, it's just a small project, weighing just 10%. We had only 2 weeks to complete this project, so I hardly think that the tutor is expecting anything great. This bitch in my group came up with so many ideas, which all sounded good, but let's be realistic. You want to:
  1. Come up with a role-play video.
  2. A power-point presentation.
  3. A written report.

In 2 weeks? Are you kidding? Is this your only module? Or are you high?

Then this stupid bitch keeps going on and on and on during our discussions. I don't know why the others didn't say anything, but hey, this is our project too. We should all get a say. You don't fucking get to fucking decide every single fucking thing.

And oh....Everyone who makes changes to the report should highlight it so that you know what's been changed? What the fuck....This is the year 2005, not 1995. You want to track changes in an MS Word document? Use the built in function. No need to fucking highlight here and fucking highlight there. I mean, if you highlight your changes, they'd eventually need to be un-highlighted anyway. To begin with, if you want to take charge of the report editing, you shouldn't have sent out a copy of the report that was full of mistakes and terrible formatting. Don't bitch about me not highlight my changes after I've fucking cleaned up your mess for you.

In the words of Russell Peters....FUCK YOU, BITCH!

No wait, I take that back. I don't wanna fuck you. Hell, I wouldn't touch you with a 10 foot pole in case I catch whatever senile toad-in-the-fucking-well-rubbing-herself disease you have.

And the rest of the guys? Not really any better. They are sweating about the presentation. Personally, I gave a presentation in one of my modules last semester, without rehearsing, and no notes on hand. I just looked at my slides and gave a presentation there and then. The guys in my group want to meet on Sunday to go through the presentation. Seriously guys, you all suck. Our lesson is at 11am. We could meet at 8am to discuss the presentation. You mean to say that you cannot prepare for a 10-15 min presentation in 3 fucking hours?

Incompetents....

Oh, and one last thing. Having a "Constraints" section is a good idea, you fucking morons. This means we thought of it, but didn't have the time or resources to complete it. Just because you humanoids in your shitty faculty never used it before, doesn't mean it's not a good idea.

[*snip*]

I went for a haircut today on the spur of the moment, at one of those 10-min haircut places. Looks okay, but I won't be going there on a permanent basis because their skills are not as good as my regular barber.

Lots of projects going on right now, and some of my project teams are really less than ideal. One of my group members is this girl....Let's just say if given a choice, I'd never want to do a project with her ever again. She's a real bitch as far as I'm concerned, and she's got a smile on her face as she goes about her daily bitchy business.
