[Options...]

Previously when I was using my HTC One X, I always tried to limit activity on my phone. The battery life is not the best, so I avoid surfing unnecessarily and remembered not to attempt to load anything bandwidth intensive when I'm in a location with known bad cell coverage (this really kills the battery).

Now on my Butterfly S, I no longer have this problem. Thanks to the gigantic battery packed within, I no longer worry about battery life. The biggest impact so far is that I'm browsing news and BlinkFeed articles with reckless abandon. I no longer keep an eye on the battery percentage. Also, thanks to 4G coverage (which is supposed to be better at penetrating walls), I'm encountering less places with bad cell coverage. Even when I'm not getting a 4G signal, download speeds are definitely faster on M1 now compared to when I was with SingTel.

As silly as this may sound, but I feel like it's changing my life - again. I felt a great change when I changed to my HTC One X about a year ago, which was my first true smartphone. But the phone felt shackled and now the chains are gone.

[Moving on...]

Ever since my first mobile phone, I've been storing my contacts on the SIM card. The reason I do this is so that if I changed phones, I could bring the contacts along with me if I use the same SIM card. If not, the telcos are usually able to help copy the contacts from one SIM card to the next.

These days, everything is stored in the cloud. Frankly, I love it. I love how I can access my Google Calendar on my phone and on my laptop, the same goes for my information on Evernote and Google Drive.

I changed operator when I bought my HTC Butterfly S. Time to junk the SIM card for one from my new telco. In the course of doing so, I thought I would start storing my contacts on Google instead.

I had over 230 contacts on my SIM card. Going through all of them, I deleted quite a few of them. People from the past. Schoolmates, ex-colleagues, and friends who have drifted apart. I cut out about 90 contacts in total. For some reason, I don't know why, it feels therapeutic. I feel like I'm letting go of some of the past, and moving on. After all, I am starting on a new job next week and getting married next year. A lot of changes are coming, and just as well, I should be letting go of the past.

[New phone!]

I bought the HTC Butterfly S on Wednesday. Time to let my One X go. The GPS isn't working anymore and the speaker is getting a little soft. I don't know what causes this. This is not the first time this has happened. I was unable to have a conversation in a slightly-noisy food-court recently, and I thought that it was time for a change.

I've finished setting up the phone, and one of the things I'm looking forward to is the improved battery life. The Butterfly S packs a gigantic 3200 mAh battery, bigger than the one in Samsung Note 2. However, the power draw of the Butterfly S is higher than the Note 2 so while I expect it to last longer than my One X, I don't think it will last as long as the Note 2.

Setting up the phone was relatively painless, except for the whole business with the SD card. About 30 seconds after I insert the memory card, the phone will have an error and said the memory card was unexpectedly removed. The memory card would then be "bricked" and require a format.

I looked online for a solution and what I found was probably the worst thing I could encounter when looking up a problem online. Many people encountered the same problem, and most of them changed memory cards. Of the people who managed to resolve the issue, each of them did something different.

This is essentially a common problem but no one seems to know what's causing it and how to fix it. A most terrifying proposition.

I managed to resolve it using a method that no one else seems to have used. I turned off Fast Boot, restarted the phone, and inserted the memory card with no problems after that.

Now all I need are some nice phone covers. I couldn't find one I liked in the stores right now since the phone is so new. I did get one anyway to protect the camera lens, but it's the soft-gel type and it's a bit thick. It makes it difficult to press the power button and the earphone jack doesn't fit very well.

[Dumb and dumber...]

I don't know why, year after year, people keep doing this. How do they not realise this is beyond me. Don't they ever go downstairs, and look up and realise their mistake?
