[How's that again?]
Ok...So on this form I had to fill, there's a MR/MISS beside your name. And then later on, there's another M/F for gender which you have to cancel out.
Hello? Anyone home? :P
Anyway, tomorrow's gonna be a "big" day. Some big fuck coming down to see us. Gonna have a turn-out. They should change the "armed" in SAF to "acting". As our RSM said once, "sometimes, life is just an act".

[Tell us about yourself...]
1. Personal Aspirations. Share with us some goals you've set for yourself and how you plan to achieve them.
2. Career Aspirations. Share with us the type of organisation and the type of work which you would be interested in and why. How do you aspire to develop your career?
3. Life Aspirations. Share with us some events in your life where you had to make an important decision and how you arrived at that decision and why?
Crap....How the heck am I gonna answer these questions? Let me see...
1. Take over the world. Eradicate all the numb-nuts, take over the world. Make tons of money, take over the world.
2. Did I mention taking over the world? A pretty worthwhile career I'd say.
3. Deciding whether or not to take over the world. That was an easy one.

[The most irritating people on Earth...]
My father's watching some news programme about the elections in Taiwan, people were in the streets listening to this old guy talk. From the 20 minutes the programme was on air, I deduced that Taiwanese people are the most irritating people on Earth. It didn't help when I was adding the tag board and couldn't fix this silly bug. It's fixed now though.
First up, the old guy who's giving the speech. He can't complete a sentence in one breath. He says 2 words, pause, says 2 words, pause....The cycle goes on. Will somebody slap the dentures out of that bloody fool?
Second, the audience. Oh should I say, mind-numbing fucks with no social...Heck, with no lives? Don't you guys have anything better to do than to stand in the street blocking traffic and listening to rallies? And that's not all, everytime the old guy stops for more than 2 seconds, they sound their air-horns. Oh, everyone, look at me, I have an air-horn...**HONK**.....
Lastly, the idiot chant-starter. Enuff said.

[Not again, I hope...]
Took a day off again for tomorrow. I did the same thing last week, and remember what happened?
Let's hope nothing happens this week.

[3 bloody mofos...]
Every able-bodied male citizen in Singapore is required to undergo National Service. Most of them go through their 2 to 2 and a half years of service without any major incident.
The operative word here is..."most".
I never thought in my wildest dreams that I'd be activated for an actual operation. When we talk about an actual operation, we're talking about live rounds, real enemies, and more importantly, they've got live rounds too.
So on Thursday, my day off, my sergeant sent me a message.
"Book in now. No duff."
Before that, I've already learnt that 3 armed robbers has fled from Malaysia and landed on Pulau Tekong (of all places). And that my unit's Charlie company, on 2NTM standby, has been activated to Pulau Tekong. My company's on 4NTM standby, and upon receiving the message, I went back to camp, not sure what to expect.
When I reached camp, I was told that we've been upgraded (gee...thanks!) to 2NTM, now that the original 2NTM force has been activated. And on Friday I was doing guard duty at the vehicle shed where rumour has it that we might be going down to take over from Charlie company. And on Friday evening, the rumour became a reality. The non-combat fit personnel took over our duties, and we went back to prepare to move out on Saturday morning, 8am. On a side note, one of the robbers was captured that evening as well.
No sooner said when the whole company was told to fall in at 10:30pm. There, we were told that the situation has changed. We will be leaving camp on Saturday morning, 2am, to take over Charlie on Pulau Tekong. No one saw that coming. I don't think anyone got much sleep from 11pm to 1:15am.
Going back to Tekong brought back waves of memories. I spent 16 weeks there as a recruit, and now I was going back. Except this time, it's with an M16 and live rounds will be issued. It felt surreal. The ferry terminal, the Infantry HQ, the route taken by the tonner to SISPEC. It all felt so familar.
To cut the long story short, my company was deployed along a road so that the robbers could not cross into another part of Tekong. We took over from Charlie at 7:30am Saturday morning, and it was a constant struggle to keep from falling asleep. It was just so freakin' boring! The one and only high point of the day was when a chopper fell down real close to us and all the dead leaves flew up.
By 7pm, the remaining 2 robbers were captured. By then, I was so tired (only had 2 hours of sleep the night before) that I can't remember much of anything. We took the tonner ride back to the ferry terminal, passing by my BMT company, parade square and lots of other landmarks forever lodged in my memory, and made our way back to mainland Singapore.
I won't lie. I've never liked NS. Who really does? 2 and a half years of the best years of your life, doing something you're not interested in. But how many people can say that during their time in service, that they've been activated for real ops?

[Update...]
From ChannelNewsAsia.com:
SINGAPORE : More than 400 soldiers and policemen were conducting a massive manhunt on Thursday for three armed robbers on Pulau Tekong.
The three men are suspected of committing an armed robbery in Johor.
Malaysian police told Channel NewsAsia the men are believed to be Indonesians and are armed with a pistol and pump action gun.
Malaysian media say they robbed a businessman in Kota Tinggi of 600 ringgit, before they robbed a Johor boat rental company of 10,000 ringgit.
They were being pursued by Malaysian police but fled the country at about 8.45 am Thursday in a motorised sampan.
They landed on Pulau Tekong, one of Singapore's largest islands, which lies to the north-east.
The manhunt, which began at 9 am, involves 200 soldiers armed with M16s, 200 policemen, a dozen dogs and two helicopters.
The island has also been cordoned off by patrol craft from the Coast Guard.
There are no residents on the island but there are at least two army camps there, which are used for basic military training.
All military training was stopped at 10.30 am and recruits have been ordered to stay indoors. - CNA

[To clean up a mess...]
Took a day off for tomorrow. Uneventful day, 'cept for cleaning up someone's mess in armskote. He's another armskote man...And quite a hare-brained one at that.

[All the best to you too...]
The run was ok...I got there early, which was a good thing, cause the meeting place was hard to find. Got on the same bus as my SC, and both of us went hunting for the meeting place. Reached at 6:30am, but couldn't find the damn meeting place till 6:50am. Haha!
Went to Mac's with the platoon after the run. We invited our PC along, and had sort of a "say goodbye" session. I sure am gonna miss him. He'd be back next month but would probably be posted out shortly after that.
Flu's getting better. Still fighting a bit of the bug though. At least I completed the run. Tempted to fall out halfway. Glad I didn't. :D

[Flu...]
Supposed to run SOC today, but had to pull out of it due to flu. Not that it'd have made much of a difference, I'd probably have failed it anyway. There's a 5KM run tomorrow at Bukit Batok Nature Reserve. Hopefully I'd have recovered by then.
My platoon commander will be leaving for Taiwan on Sunday morning. Going there for 3 weeks, and he's going to be posted out shortly after he gets back. Sure gonna miss him. Of all the PCs I've had, he's the nicest and the most understanding of all. Let's see how the new one fares...

[And another thing...]
My eye's swollen again, just like the time before Chinese New Year. This blows...It seems like any heaty food at all will make my eye balloon up. :(
There are 8 guppy fries in my hatchery now. Had to cull some of those with birth defects. And one of the healthy ones got stuck at the side and was promptly eaten by it's mother. Tsk tsk...

[A new look...]
A new design for my blog. Ok, I'd be honest. I didn't design it myself. Got it off one of those blog skin sites. =p
A friend call just now, and wanted to borrow a CD. I burned one for him, and he picked it up about 10 mins ago. I don't know why I'm writing this.

[Inhalers...]
The recall was indeed at 10am. It was over real quick though. We just had to sign a document, get a chop, and we're out of there.
On my way back, there was this man at the bus stop with an inhaler. Not the type used by asthma patients, but the type that claims to provide relief for blocked nose. First of all, an inhaler of that type is probably the hotbed for germs and bateria, which I hardly think would be helpful in clearing your blocked nose.
Anyway, that guy had that inhaler stuffed so far up his nose that you could only see half of it. Dude....Do you really think that stuffing a smaller version of a dildo up your nose is a good way to seek relief from blocked nose? Your nose is blocked, and you stuffing something up to clear it?
We get all kinds.

[Idiot...]
Got a message at 7:40 this morning. Still in bed, of course. Took my phone, read the message...
"recall, recall..."
Ok, so we're on recall manning now, and are expecting one today because this time, NSmen are involved. Other than the guy who messaged me, no news or info of any recall. I called ARMAS, and was told that I was not activated.
Huh? I fired a message back at sender.
"At 10am...Tell you in advance."
Thanks...Next time, be a bit more clear. Got me all jumpy for nothing.

[The miracle of birth...]
2 of my female guppies gave birth today. Current fry count is 12. Quite a stroke of luck. I came home from the Life Run and fed my fishes, and noticed one of them wasn't eating. Taking that as a sign, I put her into the hatchery. Found 3 fries in the filter box, followed by 2 more later. I think when I came home, the birthing process has already started for a while. One fry actually tunneled deep into the gravel to hide. I saw it twice as it was just next to the glass, having tunneled itself to the side of the tank.
Good thing I turned down an invitation to go for brunch after the run. If I did, I'm not sure how many fries could be saved.
On a more serious note, I need to use English more often. I realised the other day when I was talking to a shopkeeper that I actually got tongue-tied! That never used to happen. I guess it was due to the mostly Chinese and dialect environment I am in now. Kinda scary.....In a way I guess. :P

[Madness...]
2NTM finally ended. It was a nerve-wreaking experience towards the end, cause we weren't sure if we were going to be turned out by external parties. All the signs were postive, but we managed to ride it out. Phew.
Got home yesterday, and what I saw almost killed me. My fish tank was horrible. The white stones were 70% black, and the water was yellowish. I now add anti-algae solution to my tank, in addition to the filter medium and salt.
Also, bought a new air disk and pump. Old pump couldn't work anymore. Water traveled backwards towards it, and basically killed it. Gave me a small electrical shock too....
