[Feed me more...]

My first computer, purchased at the end of 1996, came with a 1.2GB hard-disk. That was a big deal back then, as most desktops came with hard-disks of size ranging from 500MB to 800MB.

Today, I bought a 64GB microSD card. I can probably fit the card in my nostril if I wanted to.

It's really amazing how far we've come.

[Changing perspectives...]

As I'm getting older, my life is changing. Things are getting more complicated. It's a minefield at work everyday. I'm looking for a new job, planning a wedding, and anticipating the arrival of my BTO flat. Once all these matters are settled, we should be planning to get pregnant. When that happens, safe to say, our lives will be turned upside-down, surely.

Due to this, I find that my perspective on life is changing. Everything seems to be happening very quickly and all at the same time. Maybe I've been stuck in more-or-less the same lifestyle for too long. Now all the changes are coming all at once and I can already feel that I need to make adjustments to the lifestyle I'm familiar with in order to keep things moving.

Throughout all this, I'm starting to see my parents in a different light. Perhaps things were simpler during their time, but it can't have been easy when they were going through the same phases of their lives as I am now. Things may be simpler on the whole, but they didn't have the Internet back then so they don't have the wealth of information we have now. Although sometimes, I'm not sure if that's always a good thing.

Which brings me to another observation.

I consider myself a rather tech-savvy person. I've been interested in IT in my pre-teens, and did my Diploma and Degree in IT. For the longest time, if I needed to buy an IT product, I go directly to the most high-end product and work my way down, usually due to money considerations. More often than not, I find that my needs would be met by either the highest-end product or the one that's one level down.

That's changing. These days, I find products in the highest or next to highest range packing too many features that I won't use. I don't know whether is this a sign of me slowing down and technology overtaking me, or technology reaching a point whereby most new features are now for the 20% (the 80/20 rule).

I sure hope it's the latter. I don't want to ever find myself in my comfort-zone and no longer caring about keeping up with technology and one day ending up like a dinosaur. But it's not easy. These days, I am so busy with everything else and tired from work that all I want to do when I get home is to rest, and for all my devices to just work the way they are supposed to work. I don't have the energy to fix or fiddle with things anymore. I need to make time to try something new. Time that I do not always have.

[I wish...]

...that they would make a laptop that comes with a retractable power cable. No need to carry the power cable/charger around separately. They are spending so much R&D to make laptops slimmer, why not spend some R&D on the power cable/chargers as well?

Once they've managed that, I would like them to build laptops that would allow XMI speakers to be folded and stowed away as part of the laptop. That would be freaking awesome.
