[Project group from hell....]

One of the biggest risks to take in Uni is teaming up with people you don't know to do projects. Like now...My project team mates for this particular module are all "wait-and-see-what-the-others-do" types. One has never participated in anything, one gives his views, but haven't done anything yet. The last one is the best...."You guys do the report and I'll compile it."

Fuck you. You think I was born yesterday?

If I'm going down, I'm taking everyone with me.

[Nip nip nip....]

Went to the fish shop yesterday to get some filter sponge. Saw that they had a new batch of guppies, and I picked out 5 to add to my tank.

This morning, I saw one of them had a big chunk of it's tail bitten off. That's a real pity....That one has the nicest colour of all. Light-blue, with snakeskin designs on it's body.

[Silver surfer....]

The Nike Shox I ordered online came today! Whoo hoo! Actually it came yesterday, but I was in school and my Dad dozed off and didn't answer the door.

Can't believe what a steal I got it for. S$97 total. Such a pair of shoes would cost at least S$180 at Queensway. And it's perfect, no defects or anything, with it's original Shox box.

I might buy all my Nike shoes online from now on.

[Happy birthday to me...]

I turn 23 today. Isn't that nice. 2 years away from 25. I usually don't celebrate birthdays, so this is just another day for me.

Up to my ears with project work. Drawing an Activity Diagram right now for one of my modules, when I realised I don't know enough about them to start. This is just great......

And for the same module, we need to come up with a program which, to be honest, I can finish in 2 or 3 days using ASP. But no.....We have to use Java. So my group members decided to use JSP. That's fine, except I know nuts about JSP. Everyone says it's a lot like ASP, but I looked at some sample code, and I'm lost. So very god-damned lost.

[Lazy Saturday...]

Today's a hot day. I have a ton of work, but don't feel like doing any of it.

Semester break next week. The concept of a "week" is weird in NUS. A work week starts on Friday. This means that the break ends on Thursday, and school will begin again on Friday.

[And then he burst into flames...]

The moron on the forum edited his message, and left out all references to my group's tutorial summary. In return, I deleted my message. Guess that's over.

There's this girl from one of my tutorial classes who's quite a looker. Today in the LT, I thought she was waving to me, so I waved back. As it turns out, she was waving to my friend who's seated next to me. Doesn't get any worse than that.....

Interesting note....The two of them are from FASS, and they're taking a module regarding human sexuality. In the module, topics like incest and masturbation were discussed. One of his readings was about a father/son situation. And as it turns out, they watch porno videos in class!

Maybe I should take that as my Breadth module...

[Isn't technology wonderful?]

Just won an auction for a pair of Nike Shox on eBay. Total cost was US$58. Converted to Sing$, is about S$95. Actual amount in Sing$ to be confirmed only when the payment is settled on my MasterCard.

Been in a foul mood recently, and this certainly cheers me up a bit.

[Mess with the best, die like the rest...]

For one of my modules, project groups take turn to prepare tutorial summaries. Basically, the tutor wants us to summarise what was discussed in class, and submit a copy to him. He would then put it online, in the class forums, for other classes he's in charge of to view as well. So all 3 classes taught by him would be able to know what's going on in the other 2 classes.

As luck would have it, my project group was asked to do the 1st tutorial summary. It goes a little something like this:

Summary of CS1105 Tutorial Group 19's First Tutorial (Jan 28th, 2005)

The initial part of e tutorial was spent on basic admin matters, with our tutor emphasizing the importance of our participation in the tutorial and forums.

Then, we started our discussion on the significant increases/decreases in Internet Application usage. Our tutor wanted us to focus on the factors which led to the increase/decrease from 2002-2003 and not merely any reason which would apply in other years as well.

The top increase was Online Learning/E-Learning. Possible reasons offered included an economic downturn during which people had to upgrade themselves to stay competitive as well as increased marketing efforts by e-learning companies which subsequently led to greater awareness and adoption of e-learning in our society. The top decrease was Chat/Instant Messaging(IM). Some reasons offered were that people were too busy with online learning to have time to chat, handphone rates were decreasing and phone calls became more economical and chat/IM was no longer a novelty to users and thus they used it less.

Went over the differences in LBS and GPS. Also discussed were the privacy/ethical concerns raised when using such services. Our class agreed that tracking e whereabouts of a person without his/her consent was definitely an invasion of his privacy. However, this did not apply when e person was a small child as he was not mature enough. One point raised was that there could be health hazards to the child should e parent offer to purchase a handphone for his child so as to be able to track him.

We started off with e last motion which stated that " Cyberspace is a great place for shy people to start a relationship". The general concenus was that while it was fine to start one, it would be in the best interests of all parties involved for the relationship to be carried over to the real world, rather than sustained solely in cyberspace. A very interesting point raised was that over the internet, we tend to portray who we want to be, rather than who we truly are. This could mislead the other party and lead to double personality traits in ourselves.

Now I don't know about you, but I think this is a pretty comprehensive summary. Today, someone from another tutorial group posted this message:

[Tutor Name Deleted], I have the following questions and suggestions.

Firstly, is the tutorial summary done by the tutors themselves, or by the students inside the tutorial group?

Whether or not this was done by the tutor/student, I did not find that the summary for the tutorials, especially for tutorial 1 of group 19, a good work. The summary did not in any wany cover the work done in the actually tutorial, thus omitting a lot of interesting points that has been discussed in the classes. Especially, the summary for tutorial 1, group 20 was a very poor summary. It contains nothing but only a few lines of text, which can even be done by any students who have never attended the tutorial!

Even though we do attend the tutorial, we also need to review the knowledge being discussed in class. So I'm looking forward to a much more detailed and significant tutorial summary. Hopefully the summary for the next tutorials will be better.

Thanks.

What the fuck!?

Seeing how I did most of the summary, I couldn't take that lying down. I posted a message of my own:

Hi [Name Deleted].

Coming from the team that did the 1st tutorial summary for Group 19, I would like to ask what do you consider to be "a good work". Reason being I'd like to improve myself, to make sure that my team submit a summary that is considered "good work" the next time we are called upon.

Also, it seems that you are unsure whether tutors or students prepared the tutorial summary. I would like to point out that at the end of our summary, the names of the students who prepared the summary were appended.

You raised the point that the summary did not cover the work done in the actual tutorial, and that lots of interesting points have been omitted. In that case, may I ask what are the points we missed out, so that we can add it to the summary and re-submit it.

Thank you, and have a nice day. :)

Let's see what happens next.

It's on, motherfucker. Oh it's on......

[Watched pot never boils....]

In school now, waiting for lecture to start later at 4pm. Had an Economics tutorial this morning, but the idiot tutor forgot to show up. He later sent an email to everyone, requesting for make-up class. Great.....Now I have to take time out to go for his make-up class.

Haven't been sleeping well the last couple of days. Stressed out in school. Actually it's not that bad, just that I have trouble understand certain rather important concepts in one of my modules. The rest of my modules, I'm coping more or less.

Quite sleepy now. I guess that goes with not sleeping well. Had 2 cups of coffee so far, might go for a 3rd later.

Uni's a lot more stressful than I thought it'd be.

[It's all Greek to me...]

When I was in Poly, I never really had any problems with my tutorials or practicals. I usually do just the first few questions of the tutorial at home and finish the rest in class while the tutor is going through the first few questions.

Now in Uni, I couldn't even understand the questions of my tutorials. Ok, it's just for 1 module, so I guess in retrospect it's not that terrible. What is terrible, however, is that the module happens to be Computer Networking. I majored in Networking while in Poly, and now in Uni, I couldn't even understand the damn tutorial questions.

To be fair, the things we're learning now in Uni is very very theory-based. Maybe that's why I'm having so much trouble. Whatever we were taught in Poly in the networking modules were all useful at one point or another, but the concepts taught in Uni is rather useless in my opinion. Some of it is interesting, but they're all useless.

We'd have 7 practicals in Computer Networking. And we won't be touching a switch/hub/router in any of them.

[Nothing's gonna change what you've done to me....]

Just got back from visiting relatives. School starts tomorrow, and I've a ton of work to do. Aragh. Don't think I'll be doing any tonight. Good thing it's just lectures tomorrow. I'd have preferred to go over the notes beforehand, but even if I didn't, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Can't think of a title for this post, so I used a line from Randy Orton's entrance theme. Can't get it out of my head. Catchy tune.

[Chinese New Year...]

Today's the first day of CNY. I get less excited about it as the years roll on by. Wonder why. Many people I know echo the same sentiments.

Talked to one of my cousins today, and as it turns out, he's interested in transferring over to SoC. He has a place in Common Engineering, and he's thinking of switching over.

Set up the VCR this morning to tape the live feed on AXN from US for the Amazing Race finale. For some reason, the damn thing did not record. The re-run will be at 8pm. Can't wait.

[Yes!! & Oh crap......]

Man United beat Arsenal at Highbury last night, with a score of 4-2. They may never be able to catch Chelsea, but it's still an important victory nevertheless.

My alarm clock went off at 4am. I shut it off, and then decided not to get up to watch the match. The last time I got up in the middle of the night for a match, they lost to Chelsea. Oh boy....Am I kicking myself now or what...

[Big big boy...In a big big world....]

In school right now, waiting for lecture to start at 4pm. Using a Dell PC in the school lab, and while I don't really like Dell PCs, their keyboard really rocks. I can't really put it in words, but it feels better than my MS keyboard at home.

Just realised that making friends here is a thankless task. To be honest, I have some regrets about enrolling this semester. It's practically impossible to find anyone who's in the same stream and on the same module path as you. There's no problem making friends in tutorial/lab classes, but at the end of the class, they go back to whatever group of friends they have, and you end up alone again.

Ever had one of those days when you're pissed about something, but not sure what exactly you're pissed about? Today's my day.
