[Lousy customer service...]

There's this local tourist attraction...Let's call it F. I don't think it's doing too well because it's too expensive and was in the news for all the wrong reasons some time back. They are currently having a corporate discount with my company and I decided to take them up on it.

The discount was valid for visits from 1-Apr-2010 to 30-Jun-2010. I emailed them today to inquire about making a booking for 9-Apr. To their credit, they called me in the afternoon and I appreciated that.

What I didn't appreciate was being told that I cannot make a booking right now because it isn't 1-Apr-2010 yet. But wasn't this limit only for the visit days? Oh no, it applies to booking date as well.

Seeing how we are two days away from 1-Apr-2010, I asked whether do I need to make another booking enquiry two days later, or will they KIV my booking request and make the booking for me in two days' time. Oh, I have to book all over again? Great.

They are probably constrained by their internal processes, but seriously, what kind of customer service is this?

Such high hopes...

Personally, I wouldn't go even if it was free. I wouldn't go even if they paid me the same amount.

[Earth Hour...]

I was at Esplanade earlier and the lights went out for Earth Hour. Frankly, I think a lot of electricity is wasted every night, lighting up buildings that do not need to be lighted. Like Iluma, for one. What the hell is with the flashing lights? The last time I passed by at night, the lights were off and I hope it stays that way.

Anyway, the Maybank building has programmable lights installed on an entire face and it actually announced the beginning of Earth Hour and started a countdown. Lots of people counted down with the building so that was kinda funny. A little ironic, that the best show of the night was put up by Maybank.

I'm really tired. Am I talking about lights on the side of a building? Shit. How am I going to stay awake for the football match later?

What a difference a year makes. I still remember Earth Hour last year. I was at a Starbucks at Central (Clarke Quay).

What could have been. You get what you put in, and people get what they deserve.

[Who wants to die?]

Nobody asks to be born. Hence, everyone should have the right to choose to die.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no hurry to die, but the above statement sums up how I feel about this matter. I don't think I'll ever choose to die, because that's not in my nature. But I feel that people should be allowed to, if they want to.

I never understood this line of argument. We're not going to do it because no one else is doing it. Or, we're doing it because everyone else is doing it. Why? Are we unable to think for ourselves? Do we need to see what other people are doing everytime before deciding on what should be our course of action? In my opinion, this is the absolute worst line of argument ever, used only when you have nothing to support your point.

Why are you getting such high salaries? No other country is paying the same amount for people in your position.

Why are you being paid so much just to sit, look, and copy?

[Allergic to...Egg?]

I went for an allergy test recently. One of the tests I underwent was a blood test to test for food allergies. The results came back today. I took a quick look at it earlier, and couldn't help but wonder if they got my allergy profile mixed up with someone else.

According to the profile, I am severely allergic to eggs. It's in the red zone, and while I haven't read the profile properly yet, red cannot be good. But I've been having eggs all my life and never had a problem with them.

Weird. I was also allergic to yeast. Doesn't that mean I can't have bread?

[I'll remember you...]

This happened today morning, on my way to work.

You know how when everyone's trying to get onto a bus, the unspoken-but-usually-followed practice of one-person-from-the-front and then one-person-from-the-side will board the bus, one by one? If you don't know what I'm talking about, observe the behaviour of people getting on the bus next time at a crowded bus-stop. Usually, one person directly in front of the doors will enter, followed by a person at the side, not directly in front of the door, and the cycle repeats.

So anyway, it was my turn to board the bus when this woman decided to block me off and get on before me. Fine. I wasn't expecting such behaviour from her. She looks young and is well-dressed. Definitely not an "auntie".

Before I continue, I must say that I usually don't really care whether or not I get a seat on the bus. As long as I have my personal space, I'm happy. With no one and nothing touching or constantly bumping into me. That's all I ask. But in the morning when I go to work, I try my best to get a window seat, so I could nap in peace. I need to spend about an hour on the bus anyway, might as well catch up on some sleep. You can't really nap on an aisle seat because people would bump into you or you would fall off your seat. In any case, I manage to get a window seat 99% of the time in the mornings on my way to work.

So I saw the seat I wanted. This woman beat me to it. Fine. I picked another window seat. I ended up seated opposite her, facing her, at one of those facing-each-other seats.

Before long, we both realised a problem. The air-con was leaking. Badly. Not one or two drops, but a virtual drizzle. I decided to shift to the empty aisle seat next to me. Before I could do so, the same woman shifted from her window seat to my aisle seat. I had no choice but to get up and walk away. It's either that, or reach office with a wet shirt.

So this bitch effectively screwed me out of two seats. Within five minutes.

I was lucky enough to get another window seat a short while later, and still managed to have a good nap. But I'm still irritated by that woman. Sounds silly, but the nap on the bus every morning is actually quite important to me. It's tough getting up for work everyday at 6am. One of the things I tell myself when dragging myself from the bed is the promise of a nice nap on the bus later.

Don't you fuckin' take it away from me.

I wish I could be there with you. You don't have to fight this war alone. Because frankly, I think you're not very good at such things.

I, on the hand, am born for this.

[Bypass...]

I was on course at SMU yesterday and today. I found something regarding their pass/gate system which was self-defeating.

There were a lot of gates for students and faculty to pass through. In order to pass through, you flash your pass at the gate, much like at the MRT gates, and the gates open for you. The same for exit. In the midst of all this, there is a single gate for visitors. For the two days, we entered and exited without so much as a peep from the security guards. They didn't ask us what we were here for.

What's the point of having all the other gates, then?

Another thing I don't understand...I woke up later and the course ended earlier than my usual work days. But how come I feel even more tired?
