[In the papers today....Well, yesterday...]

Saw the following in the papers last night. Took the photos, but was too damn tired to post them. That's the result of a twelve and a half hour day at work. One of my longest ever. Anyway, here we go...

5% or 10% rebate?

I don't know about you, but I would pick 10%.

The Sports page...

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched...

...because...

...shit happens.

[Logic error...]

There's this article about how this plump girl went online, looking for a date on Valentine's Day and being the target of some not-so-nice remarks due to her physical appearance.

Towards the end of the article, the reporter asked a psychiatrist's opinion on her motivations for doing so, and his reply was truly epic. I quote:
"Firstly, she's mature and confident. She would have expected such a backlash but she's unfazed by it.

Or she's immature and lacks confidence. All this may be pure fun to her and gives her attention wanted.
"
So she's either mature and confident, or she's not. Epic. I can be a psychiatrist too.

This is almost as bad as our weather forecasts. "Temperature at a high of 32-degrees and at a low of 24-degrees". What kind of shit forecast is that? Doesn't that just about covers the entire range of temperature we get on this god-forsaken island?

[Cancer...]

Proof that Hogan and Bishchoff are wrestling's cancer.

One - They brought back Sean Waltman.

Two - Val Venis. Seriously?

Three - Scott Hall on TV again. I swear, he cracked my screen.

Four - They turned AJ Styles heel. Have they not learnt anything?

They ran WCW straight into the ground. Now they are going to do the same to TNA.

[Gone...]

The "new" manager in my team resigned. Just like that. Nobody saw it coming. She's emigrating.

Maybe that's why she's doing such a terrible job thus far. She knew what was coming and her heart wasn't in it. Since Day One.

I wonder what will happen now. This is a new variable which I did not consider nor plan for.

I guess I will think about the position I want to be in, then think about how to get from where I am now to that position.

My brain is going to explode.

[An "O Rly?" moment...]

Had an "O Rly?" moment today on the bus. The macro shots were taken in a moving bus, so excuse the obvious not-focused issue.

The label of a Puma jacket.

And when the label is flipped...

It says, "Wash This When Dirty".

O Rly?

Saw the mother from China today at Bugis.

Personally, I think her daughter will never be found. That's just me.

[Dead or alive...]

I have four hard disks in my rig right now. One for my OS and data, another one to mirror it, a network drive for my sister, and one more which I use as a temporary drive. All the stuff I download or stuff I have no time to process yet are chucked there. I don't actually need a temporary drive, but when I got my new rig back in August, I had extra hard disks lying around so instead of letting them collect dust somewhere, I figured I would find some use for them.

Last night, I heard a clicking sound from my rig. Everything seemed fine at first, but after a while, my rig started hanging. It will recover and be responsive for short periods of time before hanging again.

I knew a hard disk was causing it. The problem is, I didn't know which one as I had four of them.

Eventually I was able to reboot and realised in the BIOS that it was my temporary drive that was dying. So while the bad news was that one of my hard disks has died, the good news was that it's the least important drive.

I was considering whether or not to replace the drive - after all, I didn't really need it in the first place. I thought it may be fun to try a SSD. But the nature of my usage and price of SSDs right quickly threw this option out the window. I thought I could get the smallest, cheapest hard disk to replace it, which will be a 250GB Hitachi for $60 (the dying one is a 500GB Western Digital).

I was all set to go get the new hard disk, even worked the trip into my pre-existing plans for the day. But when I turned my rig on this morning, everything seems fine. No clicking noises, the hard disk was detected by BIOS, no issues whatsoever.

I'm running a thorough Scandisk on it right now. I don't think I'll buy a new hard disk just yet. If this was one of my other hard disks, then I would buy a new one immediately. Since the dying hard disk isn't too important to me, I guess I'll wait and see how it all plays out.

[Times have changed...]

On my way to work today, I saw this secondary school boy with a ear-stub. Actually it's not really that. You know how some people put "straws" into their ear-holes to prevent them from closing? Instead of using a "straw", this kid has something like a "horn". So not only is he keeping the ear-hole from closing, he is probably also stretching the hole.

I can't believe schools allow such things these days. Granted, he's attending a school with a not-so-good reputation, but still.

Times have changed. Really.

[High call volume...Not!]

I called Citibank again just now to sort out the annual fee issue. There is also an issue with me being unable to receive the OTP, which I suspect has something to do with my Dividend card upgrade.

Anyway, since the end of last year, it seems that there is always a "high call volume", and callers are invited to leave their contact numbers behind for one of their CSOs to call back.

I decided to wait today. Within two seconds, my call was picked up.

High call volume? Really?

Anyway, this makes the third CSO I spoke to about the silly annual fee. I hope this matter can be settled without anymore calls.

[Losing my patience...]

My previous interactions with Citibank were great. My calls get picked up very quickly, and I get everything sorted out within 10 minutes. That was about one year ago.

Now, it's damn-near impossible to get to talk to one of their CSOs. I called them up towards the end of Dec and asked to cancel one of my supplementary cards. After that was settled, I saw an annual fee charge for that card appear in my online statement. I called them up and was put on hold forever. When I finally managed to get through (after hanging up and trying the next day), the CSO promised to reverse the annual fee for the card I have already cancelled.

That was not done. I repeated the request to the CSO who called last week to confirm the card cancellation. One week has passed, and the annual fee is still on my online statement.

Citibank needs to get its act together.

[Safety feature? No thanks...]

Saw this in the papers yesterday:

An Audi advertisement. They have one every week in Life! on Saturday. What caught my eye was this:

It looks like a button for turning the passenger airbag off. What a weird feature. Why would anyone ever want to turn off the airbags? And just the passenger one, for that matter. Is this the car a guy should get if he is thinking of staging an "accident"?

Saw this guy at Funan's food court:

At first I thought he was weird. Why would anyone use the laptop at that angle? But after thinking about it, I realise he's a genius.

He probably doesn't have a privacy screen and doesn't want people around him to see what he's doing on the laptop. Hence he angled the screen in that manner.

Of course, that raises another question. If you don't want strangers to know what you're doing on your laptop, why use it at a public place to begin with?

[Don't believe their lies...]

You know how you've been taught to give up your seats to the elderly on public transport? Because they "need" it more than you? This is something that has been taught to us since we were kids and reinforced ever so often through whatever nonsense campaigns they have at the moment.

I don't believe in giving seats on public transport. To anyone. Much less the elderly, which I will explain in a bit. I've always believed that if you take public transport, you need to realise that you bear the risk of not having a seat. If you want a confirmed seat, take a cab. Can't afford it? Then that's too bad. No one owes you shit.

What I really, really hate, is to give up seats to the elderly. Simply put, they do not deserve it. They are the single most selfish demographic when it comes to offending behaviour on public transport.

The next time you see someone sitting on one seat and putting their stuff on the other seat, putting their feet up on the seat in front of them (those face-each-other seats), digging their nose and wiping it on the seat, or any other socially unacceptable behaviour on public transport, see if they belong to the "elderly" category. Chances are, they do. Not to say that young people are all angels on public transport, but most of the offenders seem to be the elderly.

Take this, for instance:

There is an old woman in the left red box. She was originally seated on the opposite aisle seat. When both the seats she was currently seated on became available, the woman and her child in the right red box made a move for it. This idiotic old woman made a dash for the seats and placed her stuff on the window seat while she sat on the aisle seat.

She already has a seat. Why did she have to deprive the other woman and her child of their's? And there she was, occupying both seats when there are people standing, right in front of her.

Would you give up your seat to someone like that?

I have a friend who once said that elderly people think that the whole world owes them something just because they have a purple EZ-link card. I find his assessment more and more true as the days go by.

These people should be banned from public transport for the rest of their sorry lives.

[Random stuff...]

I'm not a Youtube fan. I think it's alright, but I don't go there on a regular basis. Only when there's a reason.

I went there earlier and I am very impressed with the quality of their videos. Some of them are now in 1280*720!

Youtube has come a long way.

Why is it so hot even after it has rained?
