[Don't believe their lies...]
You know how you've been taught to give up your seats to the elderly on public transport? Because they "need" it more than you? This is something that has been taught to us since we were kids and reinforced ever so often through whatever nonsense campaigns they have at the moment.
I don't believe in giving seats on public transport. To anyone. Much less the elderly, which I will explain in a bit. I've always believed that if you take public transport, you need to realise that you bear the risk of not having a seat. If you want a confirmed seat, take a cab. Can't afford it? Then that's too bad. No one owes you shit.
What I really, really hate, is to give up seats to the elderly. Simply put, they do not deserve it. They are the single most selfish demographic when it comes to offending behaviour on public transport.
The next time you see someone sitting on one seat and putting their stuff on the other seat, putting their feet up on the seat in front of them (those face-each-other seats), digging their nose and wiping it on the seat, or any other socially unacceptable behaviour on public transport, see if they belong to the "elderly" category. Chances are, they do. Not to say that young people are all angels on public transport, but most of the offenders seem to be the elderly.
Take this, for instance:
There is an old woman in the left red box. She was originally seated on the opposite aisle seat. When both the seats she was currently seated on became available, the woman and her child in the right red box made a move for it. This idiotic old woman made a dash for the seats and placed her stuff on the window seat while she sat on the aisle seat.
She already has a seat. Why did she have to deprive the other woman and her child of their's? And there she was, occupying both seats when there are people standing, right in front of her.
Would you give up your seat to someone like that?
I have a friend who once said that elderly people think that the whole world owes them something just because they have a purple EZ-link card. I find his assessment more and more true as the days go by.
These people should be banned from public transport for the rest of their sorry lives.
