[The real question...]

Maybe, just maybe, the question we should be asking is why has it evolved to the state it is today. What changed? What happened? Why are people now feeling this way, when they've never really felt this way before?

[Conversations with dead people...]

I was out with some ex-colleagues recently and for some reason, we started talking about whether have we had dreams about dead relatives before.

The guy who brought it up had a baby fairly recently. He told us he had a dream that his dead grandmother came to visit. Everyone in the dream was aware that she is dead. He asked whether was she here to see the baby, and she nodded but did not say a word. Apparently, dead relatives in your dreams do not speak. They only nod or shake their heads.

My experience was somewhat different.

I dreamed about my dead grandmother last night. She was in my room. There were other people around. It could have been CNY when everyone came to visit. I cannot remember, some of the details are a little fuzzy now. Everyone knew she was dead, but no one said anything and treated her as if she was alive.

She pointed at where I put my wallet and said either there was a certain sum of money there that I didn't know about, or that she needed money. I cannot remember what she said. What I do remember, was checking the spot she pointed at and finding the money.

I told my father about my dream and told him the amount I found. Got him to purchase a few 4D bets based on the amount I found in my dream. When she was alive, my grandmother was big on 4D. The illegal kind. And she won often. Anyway, we'll see what happens on Wednesday when the draw is made.

So anyway, in my dreams, dead people do talk.

[Can't lose what you never had...]

A lot of what we take for granted these days did not exist during our parents' time. Flat-screen TVs, smart-phones, laptop, tablet PCs, etc.

One of these things, is Facebook. I don't know why I suddenly thought of this, but let's imagine FB is around for the next 50 years. By then, I would be in my 80s. Eventually, I will die. After I'm gone, what will my kids do? They go through my stuff, maybe close my online accounts.

And maybe, to understand the kind of man their father was, before closing his FB account, they take a look at his life. To see what he went through. To maybe preserve some memories of the father they knew.

They look through his timeline. They see the photos he shared of his grand-children. They see photos of themselves when they were young, when they were growing up. They see photos of their parents together. Maybe on their wedding day. A tear forms in their eye, and they gently wipe it away.

And then they go back a little further and see the rubbish stuff their father shared on FB. A silly photo, a funny post from Failbook, a photo of himself when he was drunk out of his mind.

Mmm...

Excuse me while I delete some stuff from my FB.

[Why?]

Because if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
