[Superfly! Superfly!]

Anyone who read Mick Foley's autobiography would have known about him lying to his parents and hitching a ride to Madison Square Garden to watch "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka in a cage match. I had chance to watch that match recently, but I forgot the name of Snuka's opponent. Foley described a move in great detail, that is, Snuka's dive off the top of the cage.

Fast forward to SummerSlam 1997. Foley (as Mankind) vs Triple H in a cage match. As Foley was climbing out of the cage, the fans (who obviously read his book) started chanting "Superfly! Superfly!". Foley obliged and proceeded to climb back onto the top of the cage (as seen above) and delivered a flying elbow to Triple H.

Here's a man who gave his heart and soul to the "sport". A man who could care less about his own welfare just to entertain the fans. Who could ever forget his dive off the top of the Hell In A Cell against the Undertaker? He dislocated his shoulder and had 2 of his front teeth jammed up into this nose as a result of the fall, but he finished the match. In fact he took another huge bump after the fall, getting choke-slammed into the ring through the top of the Cell. Not to mention falling on a heap of thumb tacks later on.

Undertaker went around for a bit later on with the tag-line "I'll make you famous, like I made Mick Foley famous." News for you, dead man, you didn't make Foley famous. Foley made Foley famous.

3 posts in 1 day, within a few hours. That's a record even for me....Guess I had a lot on my mind today.

Saw this picture on Soccernet.com today. Well, they made a mistake. It's not Fortune and Saha, but Silvestre and Brown. This is not a mistake I'd expect Soccernet.com to make.

[I did not see this coming...]

M1 sent an MMS to me a while back that contained a Foxtrot animated comic strip. I went online to search for more today. There was a "gocomic" logo at the end of the comic, so I started my search from there in Google. Below was what Google suggested:

Yup....Gay comics.

[Livin' on a prayer...]

Got all the 4 modules I was bidding for in Round 1C. Got them all for 1 point too. *Woot*

Problem is, I realised one of the modules wasn't as interesting as I thought. But I don't think I'll drop it because I can't find another module to replace it, and there is a chance that I'd have to take it eventually anyway (if CS3261 precludes MKT1003).

But there are lots of question marks right now regarding my last module, come Wednesday, 10am, half of them would be answered. Here's the thing...I'm looking at 2 GEMs, both of which takes in 190 students. But I'd be bidding against all the students in NUS, and I don't know if I have enough points.

If I pass my QET, I can forget about the GEM if I can't get it and take CS2301 instead. There are very few slots left for CS2301, but there is still new student quota which means it's unlikely anyone can beat my bid since I've got more points than the freshmen. The problem is if I can't get my GEM AND I fail QET. That would leave me with only 4 modules this sem!

My backup plan is to take BSP1004 if that happens. Once again, there is new student quota for this module. But I'd rather not because I want to take this module with my friends and not alone right now.

[Brand new information...]

I need to take 4 modules from the Business School in order to graduate. I already know which 4 I'm going to take, and late last night I realised one of them had a new preclusion. MKT1003 precludes CS3261. I wanted to take them both. CS3261 next semester, and MKT1003 somewhere down the road.

Obviously, I now have to take MKT1003 before CS3261. That threw my plans out the window for the second time this semester. I had to quickly re-plan my timetable and modules.

As of now, I plan to take CS3235, CS3255, MNO1001 and MKT1003. All 4 are my major requirements, and I have friends with me in CS3235 and MNO1001. For my 5th module, there are 5 possible candidates, depending on how high the bid points go for the GEM modules and whether I pass my QET.

Bidding starts at 9am, a few minutes away. The slots available for 1C are finally out. Just as well that I had to change my plans. The level 4 modules I wanted to take didn't have any slots reserved for new students. But all my current choices have at least a small new student quota.

[*thump* *thump*]

The results of Round 1B should be out at 9pm, that's a few minutes away. At that time the slots available for each module in Round 1C should be known as well. I'm super nervous....Hope they open up more slots for level 3 and 4 modules.

On a side note, I've got a ton of freshmen contacting me on my MSN the past couple of days. I honestly don't know how they got my MSN...I know it's on my TagBoard, but I can't possibly have that many readers on my blog. I can identify with most of them, the sense of being lost and not knowing what to do next.

What I cannot stand are some who obviously did not read any of the FAQs or guides that are available online, and expect to be spoonfed everything from how to bid using CORS and which modules to take. If they've read everything, their questions would be smarter and they would also not be so clueless. I read and learnt almost everything by myself back in Dec/Jan, granted I did pester 2 of my seniors to no end. LOL...

Tsk tsk....

[Best laid plans...]

Woke up this morning and checked the current modules bidding situation, and it's not good. One of my core modules had already ran out of slots and is no longer offered for bidding in the current round. 2 other modules are in danger of running out of slots by next round too. Right now, I'm confident of getting only 1 of my 4 core modules.

I hate this. This feeling of helplessness as there's nothing you can do but see the slot count getting smaller and smaller.

There is an outside chance that these modules have reserved a few slots for new students. In which case I wouldn't worry that much, but I honestly doubt it.

[Missed my chance...]

A couple of months ago a disease outbreak wiped out more than half of my guppies. As of now, I have only 2 adult females, both of which are considered young and hence relatively small. I have several other females on their way to adulthood, but currently only 2 look capable of giving birth.

I looked into my tank just now and realised the bigger of the 2 gave birth earlier in the day. I looked down at the bottom of the tank and I saw 1 fry hiding near a seashell. I can't be bothered to save that 1 fry...And the last time I looked it's not there anymore. Most likely got gobbled up by another fish.

This sucked. I had really wanted to "catch" the next batch of fries to increase my current guppy population. I've kept guppies for more than 1 and a half years now, and I still couldn't always tell when they are about to give birth. I mean, there are some signs, but not all of them exhibit the same signs which makes it hard to tell sometimes.

[Anticipatin'.....]

Things don't look good.

I can only bid for my modules from Round 1C onwards. Looking at the stats after Round 1A, 3 of my 4 core modules' next lowest bid is 1. That's good, since it means most likely supply exceeded demand.

However, one of my modules' next highest bid was 501. Crap. This means demand exceeded supply. I think it's very, very unlikely that the modules I want actually has reserved slots for "new" students since no "new" student could possibly take them (except me). So as things stand, I may have problem getting 1 of my core modules.

Then....About the GEM my friend and I were planning to take. It seems that the last time the module was up for bidding, the bids went all the way up to 1000+ points. That is quite insane and even if I have enough points (which I don't) I would seriously consider before placing a bid. I still need to bid for CFMs, SS and perhaps a few UEs from my General Acct. My current plan is to drop the GEM if the bid points went through the roof, and take CS2301 instead (provided I pass my QET). Then again, by Round 2A, it's hard to say how many slots are left for CS2301. If I can't get my CS2301 or my GEM....Things would get really hairy.

I hate this, not being in control. I feel really handicapped by not being about to bid from Round 1A onwards. I wouldn't be so worried if someone told me for sure that there are "new" student quotas for *every* module. If there are "new" student quotas for my core modules, getting them should not be a problem at all since 95% of the "new" student population cannot take them anyway.

Bidding for modules last semester was a lot less stressful.

On a separate note, went down to school today to participate in a "compulsory" survey. When I got there, the people in charge told me that they had enough male participants already and I need not complete the survey. WTF....Wasted my time for nothing. At least 3 of my friends also met with the same fate.

[Someone ripped out the toy surprise...]

Round 1A of module bidding started today. I fully expected 4 of my 5 advance bids to be entered into the system. When I woke up, the first message on my handphone was from a friend who matriculated with me, asking if any of my modules were available for bidding.

I logged on and saw that none of my advance bids were entered into the system. To the best of my knowledge, people like us who matriculated in Sem 2 would be given protection and counted as "new" students for only 1 semester. But it seems they've decided to change this rule. Pretty ironic if you think about it....In December 2004, we were bidding for our modules in Round 1A, but now we have to wait until Round 1C with the rest of the new students.

This poses a problem for me, since I believe none of the modules I'm bidding for actually have a "new student" quota. Reason being no "new" student could possibly bid for them since they have prereqs which are not exempted even for poly grads. And to top it off, 2 of them have only 30-50 slots. The chances of them being filled by Round 1C is very high.

So to end it off, I was screwed. Hit by a curveball early in the morning.

But there is one consolution. I called the Programme Manager and she said in the event that the modules I wanted are already full by Round 1C, give her a call and she'll try to push me in. Let's hope it doesn't come down to that....And there would still be space in those modules come Round 1C.

[*Woot*]

This was the speed I got this morning for 1 of my torrents. Yup, that's right, 1 torrent. If I play my cards right, I can get such speeds twice a week. I'm downloading this week's RAW, and safe to say this week's episode is very well-seeded by now.

[It's coming...]

Taking QET tomorrow. If I pass, my plans are to drop the GEM I'm thinking of taking to take CS2301. This means I'd only need to go to school 3 days a week. That would rock!

But if I were to fail...I'd still be taking my GEM and I'd need to either learn how to teleport or stay in school for very long hours on Tuesday. Depends on how badly I fail.

But no matter what...I'm going to have a 4 hour break on Thursday. That sucks. But the thing I'm most pissed about is that I have only 2 modules that has tutorials, which means during tutorial balloting the chances of my getting the slots I want are very high. However, the only tutorial slots I can book are at very "unpopular" timings, which no one will want in the first place! What a waste....

[Timetable time...]

I've planned out my timetable for next semester last week. I need to take 4 business modules, and I had intended to take them all next semester, before the Business School moves to the Bukit Timah campus, as reported in the news.

Received an email on Saturday with an attachment to a circular by the President of NUS, telling us that only the Law Faculty is moving, and Business School will remain in NUS.

That threw my planning out the window. There's no longer a need for me to rush all my business modules now. However, I still plan to take them all at one shot. I could actually take them with the freshmen in my OG, if they accept my proposal to take all their business modules in their 3rd semester. This would be better than me doing all the business modules all alone.

So next semester I would still be taking modules from SoC. I plan to take 4 cores and 1 GEM. As of now, of my 5 modules, only 2 of them has tutorial hours. This suits me just fine....In the event that I fail my QET, I would have enough time slots to take my English modules. If I pass my QET, I would be likely to drop my GEM and take CS2301 instead.

[One more match...]

A few posts back I mentioned that I re-watched Royal Rumble 1995 recently. I finally got off my butt and captured the closing stages of the Royal Rumble match itself. Shawn Michaels drew number 1, and went coast-to-coast by winning the Rumble. The pictures below tell the story of how the Rumble match ended.

The British Bulldog thought he had eliminated Michaels by clotheslining him over the top rope, but Michaels held on, and with only 1 foot touching the floor managed to get himself back into the ring and knock the still-celebrating Bulldog over the top rope and onto the floor and thus winning the Rumble. Pamela Anderson can be seen in the last 2 pictures, as she's supposed to accompany the winner of the Rumble to Wrestlemania.

Of course, since 1995, a few wrestlers have done what Michaels did, that is to draw number 1 and win the Rumble. Chris Benoit did it....Is there anyone else? I can't remember. One thing to note is that Michaels also won the 1996 Rumble, although he did not draw number 1 this time.

Many people will always remember the 1995 Royal Rumble because it was the first time in the history of the Rumble that someone who drew number 1 won. People tend to forget that the Bulldog drew number 2, and he lasted till the very end. So technically, he lasted just as long as Michaels.

[Time and tide...]

I had the chance to watch an old WWF (still WWF back then, as can be seen from the logo) PPV, In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede. The main event that night was the 10-men tag match between the Hart Foundation and Austin's team. Of the 10 men who participated in the match, 4 have since passed away. Brian Pillman, Owen Hart, Davey Boy Smith and Road Warrior Hawk, in that order. Thanks for the memories.

One of the opening matches featured Triple H before he bulked up, with Chyna by his side. The last time I saw Chyna, she's a lot less man and a lot more woman, and was a porn actress.

This has got to be the funniest of them all...JBL, during his "New Blackjack" days. What a dork. He's the one on the left in both the pictures.

The picture above was captured from the pilot episode of The Comeback, a new series on HBO starring Lisa Kudrow. I "acquired" the episodes because I'm a huge Friends fan, and wanted to see Lisa Kudrow's new show. Never did I expect to see this on the first episode. By the way, this actually did air on TV, and it's not DVD footage because, well the DVD isn't out yet. And if I remember correctly, they said "fuck" 3 times. Progressive, I must say.

[How's that again?]

I placed a reservation for James Patterson's 4th Of July quite a while back. The note finally came on Wednesday telling me I could pick it up. Before you think otherwise, this is actually a crime novel, book 4 of it's series (hence the title), and not some pro-American patriotic book. James Patterson is also the author of Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider, both made into Hollywood movies. I like his books because of the fast-paced action, reading his books is like watching a movie.

So I went down to the library today (actually yesterday) to pick up the book. This was my first time reserving a book. It costs $1.55 to reserve a book, but I figure it's worth it because, first of all, if I didn't reserve it, I'd not be able to read it anytime soon. The reserve list when I made my reservation was 18 readers long. Secondly, chances are I would have to hunt the book down in another library (after consulting the online catalog) if I didn't reserve it, and the transport cost would most likely be more than $1.55.

I went up to the librarian at the counter and handed her the note that came in the mail, she checked it and then asked me to make payment with a Cashcard at the payment terminal while she got the book for me. Here's where the fun started.

I went to the payment terminal, scanned my library card and saw the $1.55 charge. I took out my Cashcard and then...Wait a minute, how do I insert the Cashcard? There were no instructions or anything on the screen, nor were there any on the Cashcard reader. So I inserted the Cashcard and then quickly pulled it out, like how I use an ATM card. Then it occurred to me that the Cashcard stores it's information on the chip instead of the magnetic strip. So I pushed the Cashcard in and waited. After about 5 seconds (during which I was wondering whether did I do the right thing or did I just break the library's Cashcard machine), the screen finally acknowledged that I inserted the Cashcard, and then began to deduct the charges.

I waited for a while. When I don't see anything happening, I tried pulling the Cashcard out by force. Of course that didn't work. But 2 seconds after that, the machine ejected my Cashcard, mission accomplished!

There was an auntie behind me, waiting to use the machine. She looked at me like I was crazy. She must have saw the whole episode. Great....The auntie is more tech-savvy than me.

I guess there's a first time for everything.

[It's only words...]

Went cycling at East Coast today (actually yesterday) with friends from FOC. It was fun, and nice to be able to cycle on a long stretch of road continously, unlike when I cycle around my house where I have to make turns ever so often and tackle all the upward-sloping roads.

Went for dinner and K-Box after that. Had to leave early to catch the last bus, but at the last min decided to take cab instead, since it's before midnight and we can still avoid the surcharge.

[Gang of 4...]

Watched Fantastic 4 today. The papers gave it 3 and a half stars out of 5, and I agree with the rating. It was ok, about 90 mins, and the ending fight sequence could have been better.

Went to play pool after that. There was a sign there which said "We are grateful for Keeping The Place Clean". Yes, that is exactly what the sign said. I took a picture of it, but I can't upload it cause my IR port isn't with me right now.

[Down memory lane....]

Just re-watched Royal Rumble 1995. When I was young, I usually tape the PPVs and watch them a few times before erasing them. But I didn't tape Royal Rumble 95, so this is the second time I saw it.

It certainly brings back memories....Sean Waltman as 123 Kid, and Hardcore Holly when he was still Bob Holly. And also nice to see Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith. May they rest in peace.

But best of all was seeing Shawn Michaels win the Royal Rumble. He's a born entertainer. He recently turned heel....I don't see the point in that actually. RAW has enough heels as it is.

[Props that eat...]

Went to be a movie extra for a Wong Lilin movie last night. The movie is called Leap Of Love I think. Can't remember, too tired. Got to see her in person...She actually glared back at me in her first shot, as I was pretty close to her and was looking at her. Haha!

The shoot lasted the entire night, until morning. Very tiring, and kinda boring as we had to re-shoot the same scene over and over and over again. And the pay was....Less than what I'd expect. I'd seriously reconsider before going to be an extra again.

[Strangers in the night...]

Got back from the Freshman Orientation Camp in the afternoon. I'm as tired as hell right now, haven't been sleeping enough throughout the whole camp.

Usually the entries on my blog are about the funny/weird/stupid things I saw or experienced while out and about. I also usually make fun of people. In this camp, there was an overwhelming amount of crappy stuff I could bitch about, so I decided not to. One reason being I'm too dead tired, another being erm....I was pretty stoned because I didn't have enough sleep and I couldn't remember all of it.

I did take a picture of a dog on Ubin. You can see in the picture what happened to him. Kinda gross, as well as sad at the same time.
