[A little different...]

The sunrise looked a little different this morning. There seems to be something blocking some of the light.

We tend to take the sunrise for granted. It's hard to imagine that one day, the sun will be gone and we would all be dead. We are so very small in the universe that we know of.

[A promise kept...]

When Mariah Carey last performed here 14-years ago, I was a student and could not afford to go to her concert. I promised myself that the next time she comes, I would go.

A lot has changed in 14-years. The style of her music has changed a lot. I prefer her older songs, to be honest.

In any event, I made it. My first-ever concert. I thought her rendition of "Hero" alone was worth the ticket price.

[What went wrong?]

My wife was at Toa Payoh recently and she saw something rather distressing.

There was an old man selling tissue paper near NTUC and three HDB Hub security guards were trying to get him to leave.

Foreigners come here and live the high life. They live in nice houses, drive flashy cars, and bed all the hot chicks. Some come and cheat rich old people of their money. They come here, most of them with no intentions of settling down, leech whatever they can, and go back to their home countries.

What about the people who built this country into what it is today? They sell tissue paper, collect cardboard boxes, or clear tables at food-courts in order to survive.

How did we get here? What went wrong?
