[Biggest chin ever!]

One thing about WWE fans...They are either silent as a graveyard or cheer at the silliest moves. The fans in Boston, however, are different.

I've watched most of Survivor Series. Gonna watch the final match after I'm done with this post. Anyway, they had the sense to start the right chants. During JBL's match, they chanted, "You can't wrestle!" Finally! JBL is about as exciting as an 80-year old grandmother doing a strip-tease. His finishing move is a clothes-line. That's like the first move they teach you at wrestling school. This ties the silliest finishing moves with Hogan's legdrop and The Rock's People's Elbow.

Then, during the Triple H versus some-pudgy-Russian (I can't spell his name and I can't be bothered to check) match, they chanted, "Boring!" Yes, I couldn't agree more. Triple H has gotten somewhat boring. He's a decent worker, but most of the time, I fast-forward his matches. The most unbelievable chant was heard during this match.

The fans chanted, "TNA! TNA!"

I could just imagine Vinny Mac's face going all red and he looks like a bag of pop-corn, ready to explode.

And then, we had the surprise return of Edge.

He's gotten fat. Really fat. And what's with the beard? He looks like Shitsky Snitsky. I don't know if he was injured or not...But with all that time off, you'd think that he would have done some cardio and kept his weight down. But no. He was obviously fatter and have lost almost all his muscle tone.

So no, he didn't do any cardio during his time off. So what did he do? I know! He grew his chin. Look at the size of that thing.

Maybe he's Quagmire's brother.

Giggity.

[Stuck in traffic...]

Every time school holidays come around, the traffic and public transport conditions improve. Drastically. Just now on my way home, when I got off my bus, there were only nine people on the bus. Two of us got off, so there were seven left. The bus is usually still 60% full when it reaches my stop.

The same goes in the morning. No problem with seats and overall travelling time is shorter.

I don't understand why. It's the holidays for primary, secondary and JC students. By the time I leave for work in the morning, most of them should already be in school. So why is the traffic so much lighter during their holidays? Same goes for the evening trip...Most of them should already be home.

I don't why traffic and public transport conditions are so much better, but I'm definitely thankful.

[Crazy Singaporeans...]

I'm sure everyone has heard, read, or seen the news by now. Some guy jumped into the tiger enclosure at the zoo and got mauled to death.

In the days since then, Singaporeans have exhibited the most illogical thought processes ever. Letters published in the ST Forum (both offline and online) have asked for donations for the man's family, for the zoo to fly the man's family over, why wasn't the zoo's shooters there earlier, why wasn't there more effective means to distract the tigers (umbrellas and dustbin lids were thrown, apparently), etc etc.

Who the fuck cares? It's not as if the man fell into the enclosure by accident. He climbed over and jumped it. Basically, he committed suicide. Why are we even talking about this?

You wouldn't even give up your seats to someone who "needs it more" (I used the quotes because I don't believe in giving up seats...but that's a whole other issue altogether), but now you are campaigning for a man who was committed suicide.

Get some perspective, people.

[Who fookin' cares?]

We have a radio in the kitchen and it's always tuned to Capital 95.8fm. For those who don't know, this is the official auntie/uncle radio station of Singapore. The songs they play...I remember hearing when I was a little kid. And the topics they discuss are so WTF I don't know how anyone can listen to it.

For the past few mornings, they would give updates on the traffic in a very "focused" segment which I thought was dumb. They would say that traffic on road X was heavy heading towards location Y. If the traffic is heavy on one weekday, it would be heavy every weekday. So, why bother?

The silliest thing they did was to report that traffic on the Causeway coming into Singapore is heavy. Seriously, who cares?

First of all, that's expected. Happens every morning. You might as well report that the sun will rise this morning. From the east. Secondly, we are already in Singapore, so who freakin' cares?

I switched cubicles today. I'm not happy. I won't go into the reasons why because it's too complicated, but on the whole, I don't like my new cubicle. I'm kinda pissed too, because I shouldn't have been the one who had to move.

Sure, it's bigger, air-con doesn't get insanely cold from 11am to 12nn, and I no longer have to listen to this sweet-yet-annoying voice of one of my colleagues...But it has its downsides.

I no longer get to listen in on colleagues' phone conversations or when they talk to each other. Believe me, you can learn a lot by listening. Less rapport with everyone. And I actually share my cubicle with someone. She takes up only 25% of the space and we don't really over-lap or anything, but it's still annoying because she can see what I'm doing while I can't see her (she's sitting behind me). I am also no longer in view of the coming-in-going-off junction, so I can't spy on people's movements.

I've fallen asleep in my old cubicle twice. I wonder what would happen if it happens in my new cubicle.

[Chicken lice!]

Who the hell buys chicken rice and asks for plain rice?

As far as I'm concerned, chicken tastes about the same. Doesn't matter where you go or which stall you bought it from. The magic is in the rice. The rice is what makes or breaks that plate of chicken rice.

Why would anyone buy chicken rice and ask for plain rice? That's like buying fish-ball noodles without the noodles.

[Stop taking my stuff!]

There's a stationery cupboard in my workplace that's filled with enough office stationery to start a small stationery shop. I can't believe I just used the word "stationery" thrice in one sentence.

Anyway, most of the things in there are pretty standard stuff. Except for pens and liquid paper. The liquid paper they bought is the cheap, shitty type. I've never tried it, to be fair, but it doesn't look promising.

The pens they provided, are shit. Lousy ball-point pens. As with all lousy ball-point pens, the ink isn't smooth and it doesn't start writing immediately. Chances are, you need to doodle on some scrap paper to get the ink flowing before you can start writing. For that reason, I brought along my own pens. Gel-inked, so they start writing the first time, every time.

My supervisor, who doesn't have a fixed cubicle (long story), usually alternates being either at my cubicle or my colleague's. In the course of our discussions, he will sometimes just pick up any pen that's lying around, use it, and then leave with it.

When I first started out, he took one of my gel-inked pens. I wasn't too annoyed...Because that pen was running out of ink anyway. Yesterday, he took another one. A new one.

%$@#%@@!$

And before you tell me to not leave my pens lying around...I only had one pen on my table. I have mild OCD (pretty sure of this), so believe me, there's no way in hell would I leave a whole bunch of pens on my table for no good reason. I take out one pen, everyday, and put it on my table. Just one.

Anyway, I won't be using my own pens anymore. From now all, it's cheap, shitty, free office ball-point pens for me.

[It's a beautiful day...]

As usual, I had trouble falling asleep last night. I actually anticipated it this time, and remembered to take the antihistamine. Except this time, for some reason, it didn't work. I did not feel a single bit sleepy after taking half the pill, which is what I always do when I needed help falling asleep. Now I wonder...Maybe all the "active ingredient" are in the other half of the pill.

So anyway, not only did I not sleep well at all, I had a rather bad dream. A nightmare, actually. The funniest (?) thing is, I actually woke up halfway, realised that I was having a nightmare, then promptly went back to sleep and continued with the nightmare. I don't know why.

It was hard falling asleep. It was insanely hot over the weekend and I was sweating a lot. Of course, as luck would have it, it rained like crazy today. Great....I had to endure an insanely hot weekend, then it cooled down on the day I returned to work - where there's air-con. The world's weather has gone insane. Heavy rainfall in May/June, and a heat-wave in November.

So naturally, what with me not sleeping well again, the nightmare I had and how I had some troubling matters on my mind, I was not in the best frame of mind today when I reached my workplace. To top it off, my choice of work-clothes made me look like a SMRT bus driver today. I've made a mental note to remind myself not to wear my purple shirt with my dark navy trousers, but I could not see clearly in the morning when I picked out my trousers. Felt kinda silly....Since I take SMRT buses to and from work.

All these miserable, shitty feelings went away in an instant. The instant my Director came into my cubicle, shook my hand, said congratulations and handed me an envelope.

I got a pay raise. After 6 months on the job, I got a freakin' pay raise.

W00T!

I did not see this coming. This was one of those one-off, unplanned increase. They pegged the starting pay to industry standards, and adjusted the starting salary for fresh graduates. As I was still considered in the "fresh graduate" category, I got my pay adjusted as well. By quite a considerable amount.

I called Singnet today with the intention of upgrading my service. From 1 Mbps to 3 Mbps. I was still on a 2-year contract, which started in March this year. From what I gathered on their website, I was not allowed to change my plan. But I wondered if that counts if I wanted to upgrade (read: pay more).

Their answer? No, I can't. Unless I pay a penalty charge for "early termination".

What a load of bullshit. First of all, I was not terminating my connection. I wanted to upgrade (read: pay more). But no, they would not make an exception. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised...Their pricing scheme must be dreamed up by madmen. They offer you a promo price for two years, if you sign their contract (which is also for two years). At the end of your contract, if you do not take out another contract, they would automatically charge you the full price of the plan you're on. What a way to repay customer loyalty - charge them more at the end of their contract.

And now they want to impose an "early termination" charge if I wanted to upgrade my plan. Bunch of monkeys...If not for the fact that my previous experience on Starhub cable was so terrible, I would drop Singnet when my contract was up and go back on the big green pipe.

I wonder what would happen if I were to write to the Forum about this...I wonder which standard reply I would get.

[Worst half-day of my life...]

People always complain that "today's the worst day of my life". Think about it...Many things happen in a day. The chances of everything going wrong and the day being the "worst" day of your life, is next to impossible.

Worst half-day, on the other hand, sounds more believable.

I did not sleep well last night. I usually don't sleep well on a Sunday night. It's been this way since I was in school. I don't really know why. I suppose it's got something to do with my sleep patterns being mixed up over the weekend and maybe the anticipation of the coming week. In any case, I usually take an antihistamine on Sunday evening that would help me sleep, but I forgot about it yesterday until it was too late and I decided not to take the pill (it would keep me drowsy for about 14 hours).

So I woke up feeling like crap. It didn't help when I realised, halfway to the bus-stop, that there was an insane amount of lint on the inside of my pants' leg. I contemplated going home to change or just try and remove as much of it as I could. Realising I could not remove the lint easily as they were ironed onto the material, I decided to go home and change.

Of course, the smart aleck passed a wtf-what-the-hell-would-you-know comment and I lost it. I changed, and by the time I got to the bus-stop, I've missed two buses. Great.

When I finally got onto the bus, I managed to find a seat. I was still pretty riled up and could not take my usual morning nap. Then someone seated near me probably woke up late and did not have time to take a dump...And proceeded to let one rip every few minutes. It was...unpleasant.

Upon reaching the office, that was when the most trying part of my day played out. I don't know what exactly happens, but once in a while, my laptop gets so busy scanning something that nothing works. CPU cycles are low, but the hard-disk (which is the bottle-neck @ only 4200 RPM) is going crazy. When this happens, all the programs I'm running are "not responding" and even if I did a forced shutdown and boot the laptop up again, the scan would continue. I think that they are probably installing something on the laptop over the network, since I saw msiexec.exe in the Task Manager, but I cannot be sure. Long story short, I forced-shutdown my laptop a total of three times and restarted it properly twice. FYI, the laptop takes about 10 minutes to boot up and load everything properly each time, no thanks to the insane amount of "security" software they have running in the background. So basically, my entire morning was fried.

[Bus lanes...]

Recently, I noticed bus lanes were introduced along Upper Bukit Timah Road. Just outside The Linear. What I found amusing was the fact that the bus lane ends shortly before or around MINDEF (I don't remember where exactly). What's the point of having bus lanes that stop in the middle of the road?

But what I found even more confounding was the concept of bus lanes in itself. What was the purpose for introducing bus lanes? Because during rush hours, traffic is heavy and buses get delayed. That's fine and good for the bus commuters, but does it really make sense to effectively "remove" one lane from the road during rush hour? Wouldn't that not just make the jam worse?

Something to think about.

Yesterday I took a bus behind Zhenghua Primary School. In my 21 years of living in Bukit Panjang, I have never ever seen a traffic jam along this road.

And yet, bus lanes were introduced along these roads. Look at these roads on a Saturday afternoon. Does it look like there's going to be a traffic jam anytime soon?

Times like these, I wonder if LTA knows what they are doing.
