[Leaky batteries...]
Some time back, I noticed that my mouse-pad seemed to be changing colour. I thought it was getting moldy at first. But after closer inspection, I realised the alkaline batteries in my mouse leaked. The mouse was ruined.
Fast forward to the present. I bought a new mouse recently and for some reason, after using it for a few weeks, I had the urge to open up the battery compartment to take a look. It was a good thing that I did, because the alkaline battery inside has started leaking. Since it's just starting, I caught it in time and managed to salvage the mouse.
That's when I decided, enough was enough.
The batteries I used and encountered leaking were all branded batteries. Duracells (the worst of the lot), Energizers, and the last batch were from Ikea. They've leaked when they are inside the equipment and also in their package. I did some research and it turns out to be a fairly common problem. Some people online suggested switching to Eneloops. They are low-discharge rechargeable batteries which are supposed to provide the best of both worlds - rechargeable and ready to use anytime much like alkaline batteries.
I spent a small fortune and replaced all my batteries with Eneloops. Only time will tell, but I really hope I won't be disappointed.
