[Can't decide...] My current rig is not perfect, but it's still going. It's like a COE car. Not new, not the fastest, but it still takes me from point-A to point-B. Also, not looking forward to having to format and reinstall every single shit thing all over again. I'm changing my mind about this every two hours. I'm going crazy. ^^^ by Locksley @ 11:08 AM.

I estimated it to be $2,800 when I was at work. I did it again this morning, it's about $2,500.
Basically, getting a new tower. Which means I need a new casing, PSU, M/B, CPU, RAM, video card, hard disks and DVD-drives. The main reason why everything is so ex is due to the CPU. Core i7 bundle is about $1,200! I usually spend only about $400-$500 on M/B and CPU bundle.
I still can't decide! Aragh...
On the one hand, I can get a long stretch of time off work thanks to the coming NDP break, which is better than taking several days' leave to work on a new rig. If I'm on leave, things would still go on in office and I may still need to be involved. On the other hand, not looking forward to the whole reinstalling every shit thing process. And the Core i7 is really expensive! :(
Core i7 systems use DDR3 memory. I'm currently using DDR2-800.
Hard disks because I've ran out of space. DVD drives because both my current drives are PATA. One of them is more or less fried (had it for about 7 years I think) and can only read/write CDs now. Actually, all the above three components are cheap. Not the issue. I don't think I'll get an AMD chip this time. I'm trying to decide between Core i7 and C2Q. The attraction of Core i7 is that it's a true quad-core, as compared to C2Q.
-shrugs- Future-proof?
In any case, when I encode video, both my cores are totally maxed out. Multi-threaded software will make use of all cores.
Considered that. But my monitor don't have HDCP I think. So I wouldn't be able to view those movies anyway.
[<---Back to Main]
Probably won't be using BDRs for backup anytime soon neither. |
