[Too smart for its own good...] My biggest bugbear with Word 2003 is that they only allow you to start page numbers on either pages 1 or 2. You can begin page numbers on pages 3 and beyond, but that would require the use of section breaks which no sane person can figure out. Not to mention screwing up your formatting in the process. Another thing I hate about Word 2003 is the spell-check. It sucks. Seriously sucks. Google Toolbar's spell-check is a hundred times better. And why does Word keep insisting that the language I'm using is French? I was doing a summary for one of my modules, covering the major topics that has been covered (so it's easier for me to find the information during my mid-term) when Word threw a new piece of WTF at me. Read it and weep. "What will you be expected to do" is wrong. Word thinks it should be "what will you are expected to do". I don't know if this feature has improved in the newer versions, but I think they should just trash this feature. Not at all useful to begin with. And if we all follow it, everything we write will sound the same. ^^^ by Locksley @ 3:57 PM.

[I want a new toy...] I'm thinking of getting a new phone. I need one that can do it all - the usual phone functions, together with MP3 player features, as well as a big enough screen and can play full-screen videos at an acceptable quality. And it would be a plus if it could take a SDHC memory card. And I really really want it to be a clam-shell. After switching my Nokia 6131 clam-shell for my sister's 6288, I realise I really miss the design. The functions were basically the same. So HTC's Touch is basically out, even though it could do all of the things I've mentioned and was really cheap for a WM6 device. Another reason I didn't want it is that I would have to re-learn how to use it all over again, seeing how I've only used Nokia phones and Touch is running on Windows Mobile. Currently, the only clam-shell in the market by Nokia is the N76, the Motorola clone. It's a Series 60 phone, so most likely it would be powerful enough to play videos (my 6288 now sometimes hangs while playing long videos). But I don't like the design of the N76. I guess all I can do now is wait for something I fancy to come along. ^^^ by Locksley @ 11:10 AM.

[What's that again?] ![]() Keith sent me this picture he took of a hawker's signboard. They're selling bumkin soup and basied duck. Bumkin. Hahaha! In any case, I don't think 老黄瓜 is pumpkin. ^^^ by Locksley @ 7:48 PM.

[I tell teacher you bully me...] In fact, I had a conference with one of my lecturers this past Friday. It was a compulsory thing to discuss an assignment, but I really didn't have a lot to ask him and his comments were pretty clear. So when he asked his customary "how was your project group?" question (he assigned the groups randomly, so if there were any problems, the onus was on him to come in and fix it), I had a bit of a banter with him. He expressed concern and wonderment that University students can still behave like kids, not doing work, not handing up work, and basically not giving a crap about their studies. How did they end up here in the first place? But I digress. What I really wanted to talk about is that after spending (almost) three years, I thought I've seen it all, with regards to silly/stupid/childish/moronic behaviours of University students. But what I just came across took the cake: You might need to click on it to see it clearly. The part in quotes was posted by another person. The last sentence was the guy's response. What are you...8? ^^^ by Locksley @ 9:02 PM.

[How much did your education cost?] That's one third the price of a decent car, and probably almost the full price of a made-in-China-people-will-laugh-at-you-if-you-drive-one car. ^^^ by Locksley @ 11:41 AM.

[Me first me first me first!] ![]() This woman above did something that was rather retarded. The bus stopped with its doors right in front of me. As the door opened and I was about to step off the pavement onto the bus, this woman came in from the right, in-between the bus and the kerb, and cut in front of me. If this has happened to you before, you'd know how awkward it was for me. And you'd also know how hard (and thick-skinned) it was to pull it off since the gap between the bus and the kerb was small. No big deal, but what's her problem? I mean, what she did wasn't nice. Would being the second person to board the bus kill you? I rate this just as bad as people who arrive at a lift landing with people already waiting for a lift and then proceed to jab the lift button furiously. Don't you think that the people already waiting have already pressed the button? Or what, are we just standing around looking at the nice LED lights? Was in school late today. Took some photos from the 8th floor of SOC1. ![]() ![]() ![]() At the end of last semester, an email was sent out letting us know that we could collect a free faculty T-shirt from the Computing Club office. It was free, the school paid for it and everyone's entitled to one. They didn't have a suitable size for me then, so I did not collect mine. I was told that the first order was rushed, meant for the graduating students who weren't going to be around next semester, hence there were less sizes. I walked passed the Computing Club office today. Different people are running it now. The sign outside was advertising for committee members, free faculty T-shirts and something else which I cannot remember (not important). I went back with a few friends and tried to collect our shirts, but as it turns out, you can no longer collect the T-shirts now...Unless you sign up to be in one of their committees. What a load of bullshit. It was meant for ALL Computing students in the first place, and now you're saying it's only for people who would sign up to be in your committee? Seriously, you need a better incentive than that. I have a lot more to say about this, but I probably shouldn't because it's coming from a "dark" place (you either get it, or you don't). The President of the Science Club By the way, no one gives a shit what you did when you were in NS. ^^^ by Locksley @ 12:34 AM.

[Breakfast flavoured...] ![]() I've seen this advertisement several times, but I only realised today how weird it was. "Breakfast flavoured" milk? How do you make something breakfast flavoured? Chocolate flavoured, vanilla flavoured, strawberry flavoured, fine. But what's breakfast flavoured? Sorry about the smaller-than-usual picture. I made an error while resizing it. Too tired. ^^^ by Locksley @ 8:29 PM.

[Logic, or the lack of it...] ![]() Why put a pole...there? It makes sitting at the seat next to it extremely uncomfortable. Most adults would have problems sitting there. Only kids can sit there comfortably. ![]() When locking the door is not enough, erect a metal gate outside. But no, don't make a full gate. Leave a gap on top, so people can jump in through the gap, break into the room and spend a night there with full privacy. If you see the logic in any of these designs, leave a comment. ^^^ by Locksley @ 10:13 PM.

[Now what?] However, their excellent design did not extend to the packaging of the toner cartridges. Here's why: There's this little pull-tab on the front of the box. As you can see here, I've already pulled it off. Okay, I can see the toner, but how do I get it out? ![]() Truth is, you can't. You need to rip the whole thing open, which was surprisingly easy: ![]() ![]() I don't know why they put a pull-tab there in the first place. Maybe it's their idea of a joke. "Hey, let's make a little opening for them here. We'll let them tear a hole big enough for them to see the toner cartridge inside, but they can't get it out. It'd be hilarious! Let's do it and record the calls to customer service support. It'd be ripping good fun!"Idiots. ^^^ by Locksley @ 11:16 PM.

[This can't be safe...] ![]() He unclipped the bottom of the banner first. At that time, I thought what he's doing was dangerous without having someone to hold the ladder steady for him, especially since the ladder was on uneven ground. You can't really see it unless you look closely, but only one of the ladder's legs was on the ground. The other one wasn't due to the uneven ground. Then I realised it wasn't too bad, because he was hugging the lamp post quite tightly so it was unlikely that the ladder would slip or anything. I did wonder what would happen if lightning struck the lamp post, though. But when he went up to unclip the top of the banner, that's when I took the picture because I thought what he's doing now was insanely dangerous. Even if he "hugs" the lamp post now, he could still lose his balance as the ladder was no longer in between him and the lamp post. My bus arrived at this point and I didn't see him make it down the ladder. I also noticed that the lamp post was shaking a lot while he's doing what he's doing. It's a wonder they haven't collapsed during a thunderstorm or something. ^^^ by Locksley @ 12:01 AM.

[Tremors...] This morning, it happened again. And I slept through it. I was woken up by my Dad bursting into my room. I can't remember what he said. When I went outside, I saw what my sister tried to describe to me last night. The water in our fish-tanks was moving in a way that wasn't normal. Once again, my Mum did not feel anything but my Dad did this time because he was seated. How exciting. We've lived in Bukit Panjang for 20 years and this was the first time we felt tremors. I didn't feel anything, but the sight of the water movement in the fish-tanks was a sight to behold... ^^^ by Locksley @ 8:29 PM.

[Broken seats, higher fares...] ![]() The bus companies keep increasing the bus fares even with million-dollar turnovers every year. You'd think that they could spare some of that on bus repairs, but no. "They" need to upgrade their ivory towers. [Singnet users...] With the proxy off, some of the images from Imageshack don't load right. With the proxy on, everything loads fine. I'm starting to wonder if the problem is on Singnet's side or is it on my side. It could be a DNS issue, but I think I've configured everything correctly on my end. ^^^ by Locksley @ 10:18 AM.

[Lessons not learnt from Virginia Tech...?] He was AWOL for 20 hours with a deadly weapon. Why wasn't there any warnings from the authorities? Have we not learnt anything from the Virginia Tech shootings? They caught him at Cineleisure...I'd assume that he had the weapon hidden from view, otherwise he'd have been caught sooner. Even if he had only 5 rounds, he could have killed more than 5 people if he wanted to. ^^^ by Locksley @ 12:45 AM.

[Time, so little, yet so much of it...] I thought of using it as the title for this entry because I really shouldn't be spending time on blogging right now, seeing how I'm swamped with stuff. Oh well... I read on a local forum today morning that an NSF walked out of his camp with his assault rifle and with several live rounds. When a rumour like this starts online, it spreads like wildfire. Anyhow, the news is out, the guy's been caught. It seems that he's been missing for 20 hours! He left the camp around midnight and was caught earlier at 8pm in Orchard Road. He was going to ORD next month, too. I wonder what's going on in his twisted little mind. Spent an hour on the phone just now talked to a friend who's graduated. I needed her help with my HYP and the stuff she told me really cleared up a lot of issues (JF: If you're reading this, thanks heaps!). Honestly, I don't know how people get their HYPs done without help from friends. And as it turns out, most of my friends have graduated. Live fast. Fight hard. Regret nothing. Fear less. It's from a John Cena shirt. I think it'd be fantastic if I could live my life that way. Except I can't right now, being in constant fear of my HYP. I'm hungry. It doesn't get anymore random than this. ^^^ by Locksley @ 12:19 AM.
