[Making lemonade...]
I changed jobs recently. As with every new role or job, there is an adjustment period one needs to undergo in order to fit in, and/or to adjust to the new routine.
One of the things I missed in the beginning was how lunch was at my previous job. It was fun. We socialised, we talked, we laughed, we had fun. The team was close not because of work but because of our lunch sessions.
At my new job, the team is small. It’s just the three of us. One guy permanently skips lunch. I usually end up eating alone and that was a bummer in the beginning, especially when I see other teams heading out during lunchtime, the air filled with fun and laughter.
In life, we have choices. There is almost always a choice. Other than being born and subsequently dying, we almost always have a choice. We can mope about the situation we are in or make the best of it. Instead of moping about how crappy my lunch hour is now, I decided to make the best of it. I run errands so I save time after work and during weekends. If I have no errands, I take the train to a nearby shopping centre and just walk. I’m trying to lose weight and clocking in some steps during lunch can only help. And with no one to eat lunch with, I usually just grab something light so I’m eating less. Walking in a shopping centre is comfortable – I hardly sweat.
It’s okay to mope. We all do. But we should not do that for very long. Nothing is going to change if you just keep moping. Think about your goals, assess your options and make some changes.
