[Where did you get this number?]

Have you ever asked the above question to telemarketers? I have. They always gave some generic answer. I have a theory. They don't have our numbers at all.

Why do I say that? Before I go into it, some background. I'm using a multi-SIM service. This means I have two SIM cards, but one number. One SIM card will be set as Phone1, the other as Phone2. They can be switched around by entering a service command. Outgoing calls and SMSes can work on both phones. Incoming SMSes will only be received by Phone1. If Phone1 is switched off and Phone2 is on, the SMS will still not be received, until the code is entered to switch Phone2 over as Phone1. For incoming calls, Phone1 will ring for 20 seconds and if unanswered, Phone2 will start ringing. If Phone1 is switched off, Phone2 will ring immediately.

I hope that's not too confusing.

So anyway, I've experienced several instances whereby I switch on my Phone2 and received an SMS immediately on it, before I had a chance to enter the service command to switch it over as Phone1. This should not happen. Whenever this has happened, the SMS received is always a spam message. So it occurred to me that maybe instead of sending the SMS to my phone number (which would have resulted in me receiving the message on my Phone1, not on my Phone2 when I switch it on), maybe they have some way of specifying which SIM card they want to send the SMS to.

Just now during dinner, something impossible happened. Both my phones were switched on. I received a call from a telemarketer...On Phone2.

This absolutely should not happen. Since both phones are on, Phone1 should have gotten the incoming call. After hanging up on the telemarketer, I tried calling myself with my land line and Phone1 rang. So there's nothing wrong with the system.

I don't know how these telemarketers are contacting us, but it might not be via our phone numbers. Might have something to do with our SIM cards.

That's my theory anyway. Does anyone know more about this than I do? Please share.
